Relocation to Nottingham

Hey all, I hope your all good. Its likely I may need to relocate to Nottinghamshire. (Long story..) It will just be me with my girls moving xx Please can I have the 411....I would appreciate it. What are the areas you would try and avoid? Is it diverse? Alot of activities for children to do? What is the crime like? Is a car absolutely needed? Whats public transport like ? I understand these are all very open and broad questions but would appreciate any answers xx Really appreciate and thanking you all in advance for taking your time and answering xx

If you’re asking about crime in relation to avoiding said areas it would mainly be the ones closest to the city centre (Radford, hyson green, st Ann’s, meadows) however there are some areas further afield that are hit or miss. It is diverse however some areas are denser in one culture compared to others. If you wanna message me darl I’ve lived here 25 years I can give you as much info as you’d like! Xx

Having a car makes life easier wherever you go. We don't have one & it does limit us a bit, but buses near us are ok. The nicest areas of Nottingham are also the most expensive, West Bridgford, Edwalton, Gamston, but there's plenty of ok areas like Carlton & Gedling. Sneinton & Netherfield are OK if you don't mind the smell of cannabis & potentially noisy neighbours.

@Susan thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I do appreciate it. How regularly do the buses come on average ? Xx I'm in London so as you can imagine everything is running regularly and we have night buses too.

@Billie-Jo thank you so much for responding. I'm going to message you. Again thank you so much xxx

It depends where you are, some run every 10 minutes others once an hour, we're lucky & ours are every 15 minutes

@Susan thank you xxx

I don’t wanna offend anyone by saying the areas I would avoid, but Mapperley, Wollaton and West Bridgford are all nice. Beeston/Lenton are nice too, although a little studenty. I live in Sherwood and it’s ok - lots of nice family friendly cafes and pubs, plus easy to get to the city centre. But maybe not as nice as it used to be. There’s lots for kids to do: mini golf, city farms, petting zoos, castles, museums, community centres, soft play, etc. You also don’t have to travel very far to get close to nature - for example, Sherwood Pines is only about half an hour’s drive from where I am. Plus there’s lots of nice green spaces in the city itself - my nearest park is only five minutes walk away. The market square often has events on too, like the beach in summer and the Christmas markets in winter. Can’t really comment on crime. Same as any city really. Can’t really say whether you’d need a car or not either as I don’t know your lifestyle, but the public transport is great.

Arnold is like a second mini city centre, plenty of shops & lots of buses go there & go on from there. Buses aren't very frequent very early in the morning & most drop to once an hour in the evening after rush hour. Very few night buses, most bus services stop running at night.

Beeston/ Chilwell are great. There are frequent buses, trams, and trains. Not studenty if you pick the right area. Very family friendly and safe. Close enough for nice walks in Derbyshire. Loads to do in the area. Lots of schools etc
