Birthing Centers

Hey mommies, has anyone given birth at Lucina birthing center or any birth center and what was your experience? My midwife highly recommends it over hospital but I need to do my own research. My first I gave birth to her at home. Baby decided to come too fast while we were home, luckily midwives were doing checkup at home and she was with us when baby decided to come. Home birth was a good experience just that I was not prepared but now I have a clingy daughter and don’t want her to see me go through giving birth at home.

I just gave birth 2 weeks ago at Lucina! This was my third birth, second was at the centre as well and by far LOVE the centre I will go there to birth every time if I have the option!

Hello Olly, I second what Samantha said. Lucina is great! I don't know when you're due, but since you had a precepitous labour with your first, chances that it might happen again is very high. So you need a solid plan. I also supposed your midwife answered all the reasons why she recommended a hospital birth. Where are her privileges? Which birth centers and hospitals?

@Stéphanie - Doula she has privileges at royal Alexander and Misericodia. Am in the north west side, closer to Rinita but doesn’t have privilege in their hospital hence recommend Lucina. Am due July 19. I was more interested in knowing the difference between hospital birth and center birth and she explained for hospital, because everything is available,they see high number of intervention as compared to center birth which for me is the least option. She also recommended it because of my experience with my first.

I did a home birth myself! My sister had a good experience at Lucina but not with her midwife (that midwife no longer works there). However there was meconium in the fluid when her water broke and she needed to be transferred to the hospital. She said she wished she had just stayed at home because she had to do two trips during labour, and while she was at home she was having a great relaxed experience, but the trips totally disturbed that. I decided in my own to stay at home, because if it was going to turn into a hospital trip then may as well only drive once and stay as long as I can in my cozy home. Is it possible to have your daughter stay with a grandparent?
