Little one not eating solids

My little girl has tonsillitis now for the 3rd time and this time it’s completely stopped her eating all together! She hasn’t had anything solid since Tuesday (she’s had 1 mouthful of weatabix and spat it out), people keep telling me as long as she’s having milk she’ll be okay but I can see the weight dropping off her😭 Any advise on how you got your toddler to eat again? Xx

My boy was ill for the last two weeks and was the same! He suddenly this week started eating lotsssss again and just seemed to snap back. However, when he was in it I tried to give him yoghurts and he seemed to prefer eating his snacks so I just gave him snacks to get things down him even if they weren’t the healthiest!

@Kiera thank you! its horrible seeing them like this xx

Also I noticed he would drink innocent smoothie drinks, so I started trying to make my own smoothies with some oats in and he tended to drink atleast some of those. I also offered lots more milk during the day

Just a question if your child has had tonsillitis 3 times to the point she not eating why are they not taking out her tonsils and annoids? When my kids got that bad they took them out. They first referred me to a dentist who specializes in tonsillitis and then he looked and said they definitely need to come out. If your child’s isn’t bad and just like a normal sore throat then I can kind of understand but 3 times? You think the Dr would be more concerned. I would ask for second opinion by going to a dentist who specializes in tonsils and also if yours isn’t bad need a referral get one from your Dr. not judging I’m just feeling bad for your daughter as you are. In mean time try ice cream, popsicles, Italian ice they have different flavors. This will help her mouth to not hurt like her throat will feel better. Maybe get her pedicure for kids to see if she can drink that it has the nutrients she needs. She may not be able to eat because it hurts so bad.

Also maybe try jello and chocolate or white pudding whichever she likes and other food easy to slide down. Yogurt on the go, applesauce on the go. Yogurt the danimal drink these things will give her what she needs hope she gets better, poor little one.

Smoothies are good too you can put veggies mixed with fruits in them and some protein and things they need but still taste good like fruit that can help too

@Holly thank you for the advise! She’s been seen in A&E for each time she’s had it and every dr has said they don’t take them out anymore unfortunately! One of the nurses told me her little girl had it 11 times over the last years and they’ve done nothing, she’s got a dentist appointment booked for a weeks time so I’m definitely going to bring it up to them to see what they say x

@Holly a tonsillectomy is a very invasive throat surgery which ends in infections for a lot of people, they don’t do them anymore unless they are obstructing airways or causing other problems with the throat. It’s such a shame!! Advice for eating, same goes as above, smoothies, milk, you can buy some shakes that are high in calories so maybe try those too. I hope little one feels better soon :(

@Cerys thank youu x

Aww bless her, have you tried blending food down? Like her favourite food blended or maybe even baby food again so it’s smooth and thin? X
