Weaning

My little girl is 5 months and 5 days now I was just wondering did anyone introduce baby rice or baby porridge before 6 months or just wait? I’m going to wait until 6 months before proper weaning fun begins but just wondered if anyone had given porridge ect as I brought a pack and it says 4-6months on it? X

There’s no nutritional value in baby rice/porridge to be honest. Although they say 4 months your baby still needs to show all signs of readiness before weaning (sits up unaided for example) as these are important for safety. X

Also weaning is hard work so don’t rush into it 😂😂

Giving porridge is ‘proper weaning’ anything that’s not milk is considered solids. Baby rice is pointless, it’s empty calories and has zero nutritional value so would definitely avoid. Porridge is slightly better but it’s still best to wait until 6 months and offer vegetables to start with.

Perfect thank you all! First time mum so completely new to it all following al of the Instagram pages and nhs things to help begin next month some time!

Stay away from them both! When you think shes reedy just go into veg etc, if you really want to give her porridge blend some oats yourself x

You might try reading up on “solid starts” just as an option to explore. They have a great free app. Our family found that a mix of solids and purées was the best fit. We avoided fruit purées until she developed a taste for vegetable purées as many of our friends who started with fruits found their babies liked the sugar and resisted vegetables. We never did rice cereal or porridge. Once she developed the ability to grasp with pointer finger and thumb we did introduce cheerios and some brands of baby “puffs” solely for car snacks because they are easier to clean up.

We started with purées and various soft solids. Never given baby rice since rice have arsenic that’s unavoidable and it doesn’t actually offer anything nutritionally significant
