I personally didn’t. I dont see any benefit of even risking it.
I had a few while pregnant with my last daughter and she came out fine no issues
How far along are you? I didn’t end up doing this but my doula told me to have a glass of wine when I start going into labor.
@Tiffany In my opinion, without trying to insult anyone, if you seriously can't go without drinking or smoking and actively crave to even if it's just one drink/smoke, yes, it's a addiction because it's not something that isn't necessary or beneficial to one self with the added risk of possibly harming a baby I believe it to be selfish.
@Tiffany as someone who smoked (not tobacco) during a pregnancy it never was a substance problem and was more of a keeping myself alive and out of the hospital problem. I had HG so bad I lost 40lb and was being threatened with a feeding tube. Smoking helped me eat and deal with my nausea.
@Tiffany for me it was the last resort personally. I went through medications to help and it just made it worse. May not have been a great decision but it worked for me. Edibles are also a thing too even if smoking may be bad.
@Tiffany my ob at the time wanted to hospitalize me for it and I had a 2yo that I couldn't leave. I was also in a dv situation and afraid of it being yanked out during that or when I took a bus ride to leave with my son. Knew I was going to go a while without medical attention as well and didn't want to agree to that if I was going to have a Dr for some time.
I was a frequent drinker before I became pregnant. I never had a full glass of anything while pregnant, but if we went out I would try my husband's beer or wine. Wasn't something I actually craved or wanted during pregnancy. And still to this day, the want to drink really isn't there anymore.
There is no known safe amount of alcohol to drink while pregnant that won’t cause fetal alcohol syndrome. Your midwife should not have given you that advice in my opinion. I would not drink or smoke anything while pregnant.
I didn’t have anything while pregnant but I do have a glass here and there while breastfeeding as our pediatrician as well as many others have said it’s completely safe
Yes, I had three glasses of wine during my pregnancy. Nothing happened, and my doctor told me it was okay as long as it was only one glass.
I did have a glass of red wine mixed with cranberry juice. I did that with my 11 yo and my newborn both are completely fine.
@Elizabeth what was her reason?
@Lydia to relax and she said at that point of the pregnancy it wouldn’t matter

I just do the new nonalcoholic Michellob it literally tastes like a real beer.
I did/do have alcohol while pregnant and breastfeeding in very small quantities. (5 or 6 drinks total during pregnancy, and the odd drink now). There is no reason to have it, there is no nutritional value, of course, but from my research, I felt that it was perfectly fine. Look at Emily Oster’s (economist) findings on the subject. That’s what helped me make my decision.
@Lindsey Emily osters book put a lot of my worries at ease.
No
I wouldn’t. I know someone who had a couple glasses a month and her son is sickly all the time and very small for his age.
I had one glass sometime in my second trimester because it was an insane craving and my mouth watered at the thought of it. It was fine but once the craving ended I mildly regretted giving in.
It very embedded in the American culture to shame mothers away from having wine or any alc during pregnancy. However, my mom is from Germany. In Europe and South America it’s very common to have a small half glass of red wine twice a week. It helps with blood circulation. Any other alc or smoking is an absolute no. But wine can actually be good for you as long as you’re not drinking a very sugary or high alc percentage one.
I personally chose not to. My SIL had a glass a few times per month and her son (who is now 9yo) is incredibly gifted and has no signs of any issues.
