What has your child's experience in nursery been like?

We had a very challenging experience at two nurseries with our son (he was forced to eat, etc.), which led my partner to decide to remove him. It's now been almost a year that I've been at home looking after him. I'm starting to think about trying again, maybe with half days, so I can have some time for myself and he can begin interacting with other children. My partner feels he's not ready yet, as he has a speech delay. Would you recommend a preschool instead, since he'll be turning 3 in July? What are your thoughts?

If he has a speech delay, nursery is the best place for him. Children pick up language rapidly from interacting with other children/multiple adults

That sounds like a difficult situation. Does he have someone who helps him with his speech like a speech therapist or health visitor? Maybe you could ask them if they think he would benefit from nursery. I do think that going straight from being at home with mum full time to school could be quite a big adjustment so doing part time nursery first could be a good option.

@Maria Yes, he has been seeing a speech therapist. I have another appointment later this month (I'll ask her). I was thinking the same and will probably start part-time. Thank you!

Hey! I've had a lovely experience - busy bees at Farringdon's in chislehurst (see your from Bromley) she's absolutely loved it! Due to move her to pickhurst school nursery from September as we have now moved to Hayes. In my experience my daughter's speech started going crazy since she started nursery a few days a week. Xx

My son is 3yrs old and was born prem at 24wks. He has a severe speech delay, currently awaiting speech session have been om the waiting list almost 1yr now! In August 24 he started gping nursery 3days anweek 5hrs a day and he's thriving! He still doesn't talk properly, however he can sing the alphabet and count 1to20 , he came even count backwards, in his own pace he's coming on leaps and bounds. Nursery will be very helpful đź’ś

So my best advice is, don’t wait for them to be ready, provide the tools to help them get there. My son is 4, autistic and non verbal, nursery was a massive support for him. Our nursery brought a speech and language therapist in that worked with him twice a week, they also prepared an EHCP referral. I’d suggest just choosing the nursery wisely, ask locally what nurseries offer the best sen support x

I much prefer childminders to nurseries. Small groups and more homely environment. I visited some nurseries and it was chaos

Thanks, everyone, for your responses! 🙏

@Melody 100% agree to this our nursery is also doing the echp although we had a referral for a pediatrician to be involved rejected twice! Which is soo frustrating!! X

@Elle (i can't see waves) that’s shocking! This system🤦🏾‍♀️

@Melody I know thankyou, Considering he was prem he's still under his developmental team etc , However we moved so out original unit, tried the referral as I say 2x rejected , hopefully we will get him the right support as his nursery said he will most definitely need support when he starts school - Such a headache as you know x
