Gripe water

How do you administer this for a 10 week old baby? The box says a spoonful but how on earth am I supposed to get this into his mouth with a spoon. I have a syringe but what would a spoonful be?

It also isn’t specific with if it’s a teaspoon or a tablespoon

I use a 5ML syringe with my boy and put it in a bottle teat and let him take it through the teat as he doesn’t like the syringe in his mouth

@Anna tysm!!!

@Lauren ty xx

You’re absolutely welcome! It’s a really strong minty flavour and smell by the way xx

I would put it on the spoon and keep dipping my finger in and let him suck it off the finger. Very long I know and should’ve done the syringe method 🤣oops

@Millie girl I hate to tell you but it sounds like you’ve wasted your time BIG time by doing it this way😂😂😂

@Lauren that’s fine he’s had dentinox before which is also like a peppermint flavour xx

Yeah my little boy has had infacol,Dentinox drops and gripe water to help over the last few weeks and gripe water helped the most plus we’re querying cmpa for him so the new prescription formula he’s on is working wonders too! Xx

A spoonful is only 2.5ml on my syringe?

@Lauren yes this must all be linked!! My boy has CMPA too he’s been on aptimil pepti 1 for the past month and I’ve seen lots of improvement but the literal crying when passing wind hasn’t changed. The pharmacist today suggested gripe water. He’s just had his first 5ml dose xx

He took it but defo did not like the taste 😂😂

Yeah it can take them a little getting used too my son spat his first few lots out until I used a syringe through a bottle teat 😬😭🫠 yeah we had my son on aptamil pepti 1 and he’s just been moved onto Neocate as of last week so hopefully this one will help 🤞

Can I ask What made you come off aptmil pepti 1 please? A few people on here have suggested to me to ask to swap over to neocate aswell! Fingers crossed it works for your boy❤️

I’ve heard that gripe water is not fda approved and many babies have choked on it since it’s a thicker consistency. Some pediatricians don’t recommend it. I just bought some and after reading all that I am taking it back.

@Tiffany ! It didn’t seem too thick to me. He’s had dentinox before which is defo thicker. Prep machines also aren’t recommended but people still use them haha! I guess we all have to do what we feel is right. I did ask the pharmacist and this is what they recommended and when my child’s screaming just trying to pass gas I will try anything. Anything within reason as like I said, this has been suggested by a pharmacist

@Tiffany ! I put it in a syringe and slowly do bit by bit into his cheek, not straight down his throat so he didn’t choke

Have you tried bicycle kicks and a soft massage on your son’s belly? And I got him swapped onto Neocate by his dietitian as his symptoms came back. The Neocate is a lot more bitter but my son took to it in a straight swap xx

As we used to use a syringe… but ended up putting it in our LO’s bottle to drink, and that worked for us x

@Lauren yes I’ve tried everything. He’s very windy anyway he’s always blowing off but it’s when he screams when it’s happening which is most of the time. I’ve swapped milks, bottles, tried all sorts and nothing helps him. He did get an upset stomach after his jabs so he had a sore bum which I thought maybe this could be why too possibly x

Yeah my son had a bad belly and sore bum after his 8 week jabs x

@Lauren how long till his bum wasn’t sore anymore? sorry I feel like I’m asking you loads of questions haha x

You can always message me if needed. It was a few days I’ve got his 12 week jabs next week and I’m not looking forward to those
