It varies wildly depending on where you live. And of course multiples by the number of children you have. Personally I work but many people prefer to stay home if they can make it work

i don’t see the point in working just to pay for daycare when i have the opportunity to be home with my daughter

Working around my spouse's schedule, that 200 would be more than I'd make 🤷🏻‍♀️ Sacrificing more than that to just to work extra so my kids could go to daycare doesn't make for us I understand that some people have career trajectories where that kind of sacrifice makes sense, since being out of the workforce for long periods of time could hurt more than the temporary pains involved with daycare, but we made other sacrifices so that I could be at home for a few years with our kids

Hubby and I both wanted me to be at home with the kiddos. It's a decision that we are both very happy with 😍 Daycare for us was going to be about 750 per month for one child, and that was the rate I was quoted almost 4 years ago (when I first got pregnant with my oldest child). If that is still the current price, we'd be paying 1,500 per month for childcare. At my previous job, I was only bringing home 2,000 per month. So after gas and maybe the electric bill, I wouldn't have anything leftover once I paid for childcare. Why work all that just for someone else to raise my children? Miss their first words, first steps, first full sentence, etc. To us, it just wasn't worth it. So I'm more than happy to be a stay at home mom and homemaker.

It’s £70 a day for 1 kids where I am 🥺😳 I’m very lucky atm that my student finance pays for 85% of my childcare costs from September (when she actually starts). But it’s ludicrous. If I worked 5 days a week, I don’t think I’d earn enough to cover the nursery fees

It was $488 a week for 3 days...and that was for a home daycare near us. The daycare i would have preferred was $700 for 3 days with cameras we could tap into and mo montessori style. Also, for ONE kid. Working part time I was only making $780 at $37 and hr. It just didn't really make sense for us. We're having a second baby and def would not be able to afford daycare for 2.

I’d either have to do full time or nothing for it to work. My role didn’t have much room for flexibility and paying for 4 days was the same as paying for 5. I don’t have family nearby to help with childcare. So I weighed up the meagre amount of salary I’d be left with after paying for full time childcare vs the fact that I’d be earning so little to only see my daughter for an hour or two each evening and at weekends. For me it was a no brainer. I appreciate that I’m lucky to be in a position to stay home, by no means are we well off, but we’re surviving and we’re not putting ourselves in debt. I could find evening/weekend work around my husbands hours but until we get to a point where I need to do that in order to keep us afloat then I’ll stay home.

200$ idk where you live but not here.

Honestly daycare would’ve been almost my entire paycheck so we opted for me to just stay home since it made more sense for me to be the one watching the kids instead of using my entire paycheck to pay for someone else to watch my kid

More like $800 a week

It’s almost 400/week where I am!It costs more to have a job that only pays for childcare than to not have a job.

I was a lead teacher at a kindercare (a higher end reputable daycare) but daycares only pay min wage and I saw so much turnover/ girls hired that weren't invested in the kids. Kids need stability in the relationships they develop with the adults in their life and seeing women quite all the time/turnover - I'd rather spend my time raising my child. They also cost 350/week per child. We are pregnant with another so 700/week to have strangers caring for my kids during the day isn't worth it to me. The parents of the kids in my class were medical professionals, business owners and other very high paying professionals. But I can no longer work in my career field (slate roofing) and I would never work a min wage job to be away from my kids. Even if I could make 50k+ and afford it, I'd stay home.

I don’t have a job because I like staying home more than dealing with people

Babies grow up too fast and I want to be there for every milestone. I don’t want a stranger to experience these

I think I’d jump off a cliff if I had to be a SAHM. Though, I do feel like a SAHM that also works. As a matter of fact, I already feel like jumping off a cliff

Also $200? In what universe?

because it benefits the family and kids for me to be home lol

I wish daycare was 200 a week here. I was quoted 400 for 3 days a week LOL

I was a teacher and didn’t want to use all my patience into other people’s kids

Because we do what works for us and not what everyone thinks we should do 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also, where are you where it costs $200 a week??

I rather raise my own kids and if I have the funds to I will. Don’t trust anyone with my babies when they’re young 🤷‍♀️

Where do you live 😂

We all make decisions that work for us. You don't have to agree with or even understand them. Respecting peoples choice to stay home or go to work shows maturity. Motherhood is tough enough, lets not judge. Its also about $160 a DAY so please do let us know where you live because 200 a week.... must be nice

It’s about $200 a week here but I would make way more than enough as I’m an experienced degreed engineer but I prefer to be home and spend that time with my kids. I can always go back to work but they won’t be little forever. It’s about being able to spend that time with them over any amount of money I would accrue.

Daycare for my 10m old is $361 a week..when he goes to the toddler class it only goes down $5…we have to do daycare because I start a new job tomorrow but shits expensive

My daycare is free actually! I stay home because I want to raise her myself

And we can afford for me to stay home

Lol where you at that daycare is 200 a week for one kid? 🤣 everywhere me and my husband checked out was more than a thousand every 2 weeks. One was higher than our mortgage! The lowest we saw was they wanted 450 every week. 😂 Daycare crazy expensive especially if they are babies.

Where I’m at daycare is $850 a week for one kid, and I have two, it’s cheaper for me to stay home plus for me staying home with my babies raising them and teaching them is so much better in my opinion. Now if you can’t stay home and you work that’s allot on its own. I love and respect all moms wether they work or stay home with their kids.
