Rejecting our offer

How does it work if we reject our school place? Does it automatically go to the next one in the list or can we ask for our 1st choice again or do they allocate for us?

They allocate to the next one if it’s not oversubscribed xx

We had this for my oldest last year, we got our third choice. We were told not to reject but to go on the wait list for our 1st and 2nd choice. Speak to the schools admissions team in your area incase it varies in each area. We actually ended up going to look at another school (my oldest is awaiting assessment for ASD and ADHD so we were really anxious about him going to a school that would support him). We applied for a place at the other school and the day I was sending off the paperwork got offered our 1st choice. You can ask to find out where you are on the waiting list for each school but that can change going up or down (if someone who meets the criteria applies they'll go above you on the waiting list). You can also appeal, the admissions team will be able to guide you. We didn't appeal. They were able to tell us where we were on the waiting list for the schools too xx

@Rachael oh so can we apply to another school again even after the offer is made already? Do you know when we know if we will be given a place if we r on the waiting list?

Only if they have spaces I believe. The one we were suggested had spaces so it wasn't a problem for us. Might be worth. So we were told to accept the 3rd place offer but we could look and then they advised us that they had a space so to apply to the local authority and they changed it to that school and we had to put our new order of preference so we left our 1st choice as what it was remained on the waiting list for that then accepted the new school as second place. So when the place became available swapped to the 1st choice. Hope that makes sense

Sorry, I just realised you asked about when you find out about a place on the waiting list. It will depend on when the place becomes available. I know someone in my sons class got a place after attending another school for 1 day, then swapping over. So, unfortunately, it's a bit of a waiting game xx
