Permethrin is best for ticks, but it does not get applied like a typical repellant right before going out - instead you pre-treat shoes/clothing/gear that will frequently be used outdoors. It works by killing the ticks that crawl up the shoes/socks etc that were treated. Supposed to last for at least 6 washes.

Or you can mail items to https://www.insectshield.com/pages/insect-shield-your-clothes to be treated and sent back. They claim their treatment lasts longer than DIY
Important note: When it's first applied and is still wet, it is toxic to some animals (especially cats!), so I would research and make sure to apply safely.
@Becca ooooh thank you for this
Odoban has sprays
Withlovearomatherapy makes a bug spray we love
I’ve been using the babyganics insect spray! No ticks so far 🤞🏻
