Permethrin is best for ticks, but it does not get applied like a typical repellant right before going out - instead you pre-treat shoes/clothing/gear that will frequently be used outdoors. It works by killing the ticks that crawl up the shoes/socks etc that were treated. They claim their treatment lasts longer than DIY Important note: When it's first applied and is still wet, it is toxic to some animals (especially cats!), so I would research and make sure to apply safely.
