Debt

Hello, since maternity leave I’ve managed to build up a sum of money on my credit card. Nothing was self indulgent however, I worry about it ALL the time. It’s £3000. Does this seem a lot (be honest) or am I stressing for no reason!

Hii, honestly to some people yes it would be. But my debt is so much worse than £3000, so I’d be pretty thrilled! £3000 is definitely manageable to pay off without any major intervention. It does keep me up at night sometimes, but it was rack up credit card debt, or not be able to afford our rent 🤷🏼‍♀️ we did what we had to do! We had babies in the middle of the cost of living crisis. I’m sure there are a lot of women in our position ❤️

Sorry you're going through this. It's not my own debt but my dad passed away leaving about £25k debt and its driving me mad the companies up my a*** as executor to repay. My mum has gone to speak to citizens advice and a free debt advice service and said very helpful. You should definitely call services in your area. Your hv may even be able to point you to local charities that can advise. I'm also receiving cbt therapy for stress management specifically due to my dad's debts and managing his affairs, through the council IAPT and they still fasttracked me despite being more than 1 year pp as they don't want a young mum stressed. It sounds silly but it really helped me change my mindset and not let the stress take me over so much, I'm sleeping better and spend only allocated parts of the day and days of the week on this now whereas before I was worried about it 24/7 so do recommend the stress management cbt course ❤️❤️❤️🙏 Maternity leave in this economy is brutal. Try not to be too hard on yourself

My partner and I have about £18k of debt. Best thing to do if you’re struggling is contact stepchange, they’ve helped us so much to get in control of it! X
