Help! My 18 month old ate some hand sanitizer

No judgement please! The hand sanitiser was stored away in a nappy caddy on the dresser I sat my lb on the changing mat to get him dressed. As I leaned down to grab his clothes in the drawer he grabbed the hand sanitiser and put the pump in his mouth He breathed loudly and I looked up and he was sticking his tongue out and I realised he ate some I have no idea how much he ingested possibly about a pump or less I took him under a tap and rinsed his mouth well He’s just eating his breakfast and seems completely fine but I’m scared about a possible alcohol poisoning I feel horrible I am in line on the phone to my GP rn just need some reassurance! Has this ever happened to anyone?!

My instinct was to say I’m sure they’ll be fine but actually a google search says it’s pretty serious. Might be worth calling 111 to get immediate advice instead of gp

Do you know how much he ate? I second ringing 111 as methanol poisoning can be very serious indeed.

My daughter did this around this age, I called the UK poison line, they just told me to keep her hydrated but before I could even get any water near her she was projectile vomiting everywhere & then was absolutely fine, she’s 5 years old now with no issues

Thank you everyone for your comments! I ended up calling 111 and they’ve said he’s going to be fine as he was fine within himself this whole time, no vomiting or any other symptoms of poisoning. If any new symptoms appear then straight to A&e. Thank God he’s fine x

What a relief!! So glad he’s ok. These things can happen so fast so please don’t beat yourself up over it.
