Does your 2 year old drink out of an open cup?

Mine drinks out of a straw cup, but he won’t even try the open cup. He tried it a couple times before but got upset when he spilled on himself. I tried the 360 cup before but he would drink from the top so it confused him when we transitioned to an open cup. I keep offering the open cup. Is there anything else I can do?

Just keep offering the open cup!!!! My 23 month old drinks from a sippy cup smooth nipple still he was never bottle fed ever just BF and had a hard time transitioning . My 10 month old has never used a bottle either so I am nervous to give her her first cup

No she doesn't she would drown herself if I let her

@Samantha good luck!! So much to worry about as mothers 🥲

She can, but I dont like the risk of mess so I dont give her one unless the straw cups are all dirty. Practice in the shower! Cups in the shower and bath are necessary for my kids lol, and they both taught themselves to drink from an open cup from that

Occasionally he will but usually with a few spills lol. Definitely ok using straws right now 😂

My son won't even drink out of a straw cup 🤦🏻‍♀️ we got some cups that are leaning more toward being a straw so we could kinda transition him, but he also chews his sippy cups so I don't think a straw cup would go well 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Cheyann my son also chews the straws lol. It’s only been a problem with my water bottle. It still works but I prefer to drink out of an unchewed straw lmao

I gave my daughter a small cup to practice in the bath and at daycare she gets water in a small Dixie cup. I also offer her an open cup and assist her, if she lets me 😂🙄

Mine only drinks out of them but this is gonna be a kid specific thing. The pediatrician actually said don’t bother w open cups yet so if yours doesn’t, I would personally not be concerned!

My son does, he goes to daycare and they've implemented it there so we've done the same at home. We started with half an inch of water so if he spilled, it wasn't that bad. And then added more. Demonstrate it to him. Sit him down and show him slowly how you do it. Then help guide him and then let him do it alone. It's a process so allow him to make mistakes. Do it outside if you don't want to deal with the mess. Take off his clothes too and just start from there. Even once he gets it he'll accidentally knock it and spill it, but they're learning so just be patient with him, have him help you clean it and so on.

Also fully dependent on the kids personality and what day their having. I know days my son won't even sit still so don't try to teach him something gentle that day. Or maybe he'll get it from day to the next in 2 months time. Don't rush it. At this age, it's not a major developmental milestone, so there's no need to stress about it. As long as they're hydrated, healthy and happy everything will be a-ok!

She can drink with an open cup with some spilling here and there. But we just use a cup with a straw right now. I have enough mess to clean up everyday, I’m choosing not to clean up spilled liquid all over the floor. 😂😂😂

My son does but we also introduced an open cup at 6months so he’s been used to it just have to make sure to tell him to go slow so he doesn’t pour it all over himself 🤣🤣
