Ugh my son just got diagnosed with croup and double ear infection!! Anyone have a tips or tricks? Have to give him a liquid steroid and amoxicillin, any recommendations?
Croup is rough. I’m sorry! We’ve been through it a few times. Is the steroid flavored? If it’s a dissolvable pill it’s very bitter so I usually put a tiny bit of Mio or something flavored so he’ll take it. Cool air is good (a bundled walk in the evening if the air has a chill) a cool mist humidifier. Elevate the bed a little (I’ll usually put a few baby books under one side to elevate where his head is). My son always has a harder time breathing the more worked up he gets so laying low tends to help. Tylenol to help with pain in the meantime (ear and throat from coughing) I usually do baths more often as it’s soothing etc.
@MeganThe steroid is a liquid! I tried to put it in apple sauce, he ate most of it and then decided to throw it all over
@Sarah ok! If it’s dexamethasone it takes about 4-6 hours before it really kicks in well
