Struggling with Solids

Hi mamas, I’m feeling really exhausted and worried. My baby is 7 months old now, and I started introducing solids around 5 months—first with fruit feeders, then purées. But she shows no interest in food and often cries or struggles to swallow, even with very thin purées. She also refuses bottles and formula, and only wants to nurse every 2 hours, even through the night. It’s been really tough, and I’m not sure what to do next. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice or reassurance would mean so much right now.

My daughter has only really started eating properly now at almost 13 months. We’ve finally managed to reduce nursing to morning and night only. It’s a big adjustment for them. Another option could be BLW but I’d be a bit cautious if her swallow seems to be an issue. Maybe reach out to a medical professional if it continues. Hope she starts to eat better soon, but she is still very young 😊

My son is 10 months old. Started him on solids at 6 months and he was not interested at all. Any food I managed to get in his mouth he just spat straight back out. I started to get quite stressed about it and then all of a sudden at 8 months he decided he wanted to eat and now eats everything! If you’re concerned about her swallowing perhaps reach out to a medical professional just for some reassurance. I know it’s easy to say but try not to worry too much at the moment, she may just not be quite ready.

Are you feeding her purées or is she feeding herself? Have you tried finger foods yet? Is she just gagging often, is that what you mean by struggling to swallow? You can try to tweak the timing a little and offer solids about 45 min after nursing so she’s not too hungry or too full. But some babies do take longer to take to solids and that’s ok too! I would just keep offering a variety of things as the exposure itself is great!

Have you tried non-puree foods, baby-led weaning? I'm pregnant with my first so I have no clue, but I've been reading up about it and the solid starts app looks fun xxxx

Some babies just take a bit longer to get into food then others. Keep offering different things and they'll eventually want to eat. They don't usually start to worry till after 1

7 months old is still so young, they’re main source of nutrition is milk until 12 months and food is for fun/experimenting until then.. be patient and allow them nurse if that’s what they want. They might be teething. I’d let the baby lead and you’ll shall be fine

Did you try mixing it with breastmilk?
