I only had them for 10 days with my emergency c section. I wonder why the difference
I had the injections but it was only for 10 days. I had an emergency c section in 2022 and it was 10 days of injections and then my planned one a few weeks ago also only 10 days of injections. 6 weeks seems excessive
If you’ve been given them for 6 weeks there’s literally a reason behind it. Those on 10 days will have lower risk factors. In the nicest way, if you’re over weight (don’t know who you are) you have to have them longer- I know this as I had them 6 weeks. I managed 4 weeks but was moving fully by then so it was less of a worry for blood clots. There will be other risk factors for why you’d have to have 6 weeks, but being overweight was the reason behind mine.
They’ve told me it’s only 10 days x
Each hospital trust have different criteria for how many days/weeks are needed. They do a scoring system to work out your risk. Things like age, type of delivery (planned section and emergency section are often scored differently), blood loss, BMI, if you’re a smoker etc. Please please keep taking them you’re obviously very high risk of developing a clot if they’ve prescribed them for 6 weeks. Blood clots can be fatal
I had to do them for 6 weeks and it was because of my BMI
I had to self inject for 3 months (PE) 😭 My son's needs were, and always will be, my priority and thus motivation. Wouldn't want him growing up without a mum. Definitely don't stop! I know phobias are complex, but honestly blood clots are scary AF.
It depends on what had gone down and how quick you were up and about after the surgery, if you’re at a higher risk of blood clots or stayed in hospital for more than 5 days you get given 6 weeks worth, I had to have a whole meeting about it before I was discharged because I stayed in the hospital for over a week but that was only because my son was in NICU so the protocol was to give me 6 weeks worth but they acknowledged my circumstances were different and i’d been up walking from day 1 so just sent me with 10 days worth, just keep going girl they’re doing important things for your body to help you recover! x
I had 6 weeks of injections. They are given for a reason. Blood clots are terrifying....they can cause pulmonary embolism, heart attack and stroke. Personally, the risk to stop them early wasn't worth it for me.
I had an emergency c-section two weeks ago and was given 10days worth of injections. 6 weeks seem really excessive, did you ask them why so long? I would call my GP to double check, I had a really bad reaction to my injections and am still badly bruised from it not to mention that it caused my body( head to toe, was rush to hospital because my tongue was so swollen I couldn’t breathe) to swell up excessively, struggling to reduce the swelling
Wait I’m confused why are so many given injections? I was never told about this. Can someone explain. I had a C-section
I had 6 weeks after as I was on the injections for a long time in pregnancy because I was bedbound for ages with Hyperemesis. There are definitely always risk related reasons. I’d try to finish them. It’s not nice, but even six weeks is really not for ever. Not worth the risk to stop earlier I think. But I’d ask why you’re classed higher risk
I’m in NSW Australia , when I had an emergency c section I was given 6 weeks of injections to self administer of something for blood Clots. As I had a friend who recently had emergency c section and didn’t have this I asked why I had this and my friend didn’t at same hospital , they told me it’s now a very new policy of the hospital to give to EVERY women after birth regardless of weight/risk/complication (not evaluated by individual cases or scored) it was simply a blanket to all, midwife told me it was only given to overweight women in the past who were high risk. I told the midwife I have had enough of the pain , I had adverse reaction to another medication, didn’t want to do the injections. She said it was fine and my choice. I’m 5 months PP now healed extremely well and managing well and have had zero complications. I think it’s best to look at each individual situation for risk and benefit and decide and we all have our own intuition and our own body wisdom to make our decisions

@Jess even in the US, heparin injections are pretty routine for post op c sections.
I only had to take mine for a week. Had to get my husband to do it for me as I don’t like needles, was so glad when I didn’t have to do it anymore.
I had to take them for 10 weeks. There are reasons mine was before I fell pregnant I smoked and I had liver problems whilst pregnant and sepsis. It does get easier to do them I had a big fear of needles aswell x
I had 10 days on my first but I assume as I’m older and bmi is high that’s why I had to for 6 weeks. I really wouldn’t recommend stopping they can literally Save your life god forbid you develop a blood Clot x
I only had to take them for two weeks after my planned section
