How much would you set aside

My daughter is due to start nursery school in September but I want to start putting money aside for bag, clothes, shoes but not sure how much is realistic 🙏

Great that you want to set money aside but at nursery clothes get destroyed and covered in paint/food. We just have cheap and cheerful nursery clothes like leggings and T-shirts. They wear the same shoes each day; I usually get a good pair from Clark’s and they last until the next size is needed and have a pair of wellies - decathlon do great value ones. I just have a small back pack (as peg space is small) with a change of clothes inside. More if you’re potty training but then I just sent a selection of clothes in a plastic bag whilst they were needed.

@Annabelle she has to wear an actual school uniform sorry I should have been clearer None the less this is really helpful I’m hoping she can use the toilet independently by September x

I have to buy my boy a new pair of shoes every 3-4 weeks as he ruins then. Tops & jumpers last longer, but trousers I’ve had to replace 8 pairs in the last 2 weeks as he just wears out the knees 😂. Bag we’ve had the same for 3 years.

Sorry! That’s so cute. I think you can get a range of prices from shops like Asda to John Lewis. I have heard Sainsbury’s uniform is quite good. I imagine the school has a school jumper/cardigan? My eldest is just about to start school in September too. I’m roughly thinking £80-100 with a good pair of shoes. I am an early years/ks1 teacher and I know that jumpers go missing all the time so I am planning on getting a few of those with name labels everywhere 😅

£150 at a generous guess but depends if you are the sort of person that likes to buy more or have less but wash more. The shoes if you get from Clark’s will be the most expensive at £30-£40. Uniform I buy two sizes bigger so don’t spend much the following year and it’s not that expensive. I have one named jumper which school gives free and two cardigans. Then you have water bottle and lunchbox. You can always look online and calculate it.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. It can be as much or as little as you like. There are bargains to be had! If the school will allow a plain jumper rather than one with the logo this will be much cheaper. We got one with the logo for £14 (😮) and then a two pack from Tu at Sainsbury’s in their 20% off offer so cost £3.20 for the two. Supermarket polo shirts are very cheap but if you wanted to spend more places like M&S are a bit more. We got his first pair of school shoes in the Clarks sale for £8 reduced from £40. Supermarket school shoes are much cheaper but do the job and they grow out of them quickly. Bags and trousers are the same - huge range of prices depending on where you buy them. Vinted is great for bargains too. If you’re like me and like saving money I would suggest rather than saving up and buying everything nearer the time, start looking for bargains now and snap them up as and when you see them x

The shoes need to be super comfy and flexible they will be worn all day to play in when inside. And you will likely need wellies that stay at the nursery too

@Sydney what school shoes would you recommend? X
