Caring for toddler and baby with thrown out back

I’ve thrown out my back and can barely move (likely from hauling my kids around…). I can’t bend over and pick anything up at all. I’m the primary caregiver to a three year old and 7 month old. Fortunately it’s happened on a Friday and my husband can help with the kids all weekend, but I’m worried about what happens if I don’t feel better by Monday. We don’t have anyone who can help with childcare. Has anyone dealt with something similar? What was your recovery time and how did you manage to take care of the littles? Any strategies or advice would be helpful.

See if you can find “Tiger Balm”. It’s similar to IcyHot but works so well. I used to play rugby and after particularly rough games I’d be so beat up it hurt to breathe. Tiger Balm helps. Also try 20-30 mins in a heating pad then wait 30 mins and ice it. I e had sciatica for years and the heat soothes muscles while the ice reduces swelling. Extra strength Tylenol too will help with inflammation.

I second the tiger balm. I've heard that green rubbing alcohol helps some with muscle aches but I've never tried it myself.

I did. I bought an electric blanket and slept on it at night. I also got one of those grabbers to pick things up off the floor.

I threw my lower back out when my boys were two. I tried picking up the heavier one but I didn’t bend my knees deeply enough and felt a shift in the lower right part of my back. I looked like a cork screw the way I was walking around all bent over and twisted. It was horrible. I had to go to med express and they gave me a non-narcotic muscle relaxer and that was the only thing that helped. Took 3 days to finally loosen up and make me functional.
