Second birth - shorter labour?

Hey ladies, any of you with more than one child who can reassure me of second time labour? 😅 My first labour was 27+ hours & assisted birth as baby was stuck. Second time, due soon but concerned about another vaginal birth due to length of labour & assisted birth again. Was your second labour quick and how long did you push for? Was it straight forward or assisted? Thanks!

My first was 22 hours and my second, well I thought I could take my oldest to nursery as I just started getting pains 8am & they get very intense very quickly! I delivered him 3 hours later, my waters went and then there after one push there he was!! X

October 23 first time mum but this came up on my feed. First birth was spontaneous and from waters breaking to birth was just over 24 hours. Second birth I was induced but from waters being broken to birth was 3 hours. So much shorter for me and very little pushing 2nd time round. 👀😬😊

@Ruth @Danielle wow, this is amazing. I can’t even imagine it 🤣 are you both glad to have opted for vaginal again? I’ve been considering c section as so worried I’ll have the same as my first birth again x

Yeah it was so quick, I had no time for anything! I was home by dinner time too so was in hospital less than 12 hours it was fab ha x

My first child i was in Labour for 24 hours and my second was 3 days both vaginal and both induced second time round though the contractions were way stronger and I remember within an hour I wanted to push.

@Camille 3 days! 😩 just out of curiosity, how many weeks did you get induced? I went to 41+6, got a sweep. I wouldn’t want to carry that long again (as if I have any choice 🤣)

Yes! My first at 41 weeks exactly, was a 36 hour labour lots of complications including baby getting stuck so needing to be cut back to my bum, she was 9lb 5oz, had my second last Sunday and 24 hours exactly from induction, and the birth was amazing, no complications and only a tiny graze tear no stitches needed. I feel like I got my normal birth, and how women can enjoy it, and was comfortably walking around and able to wee etc straight after. You can do it xxx

@Rachel that was exactly my first birth too, stuck, 9.5lb, forceps and cut 😭 I’m so glad you got a better experience next time round. I’m thinking of holding out for this instead of a c section now. Plus my recovery from first birth was very speedy so can’t complain there! Xx

My births were very different but both good on the whole. The worst bit for the first one was hospital stay after. It was something I'd never planned for. So to compare... 2l blood loss vs 1 litre Epidural (positive experience) vs gas and air Time pushing 2hrs vs 5 minutes 4 night stay vs 1 night stay Spontaneous vs Induced labour Tears and stitches for both Manual removal of placenta in first. 🤷‍♀️

My first birth was 8 hours from first contraction to delivery. My second was 3 days contracting and 20 hours in active labour however I NEVER hear anyone having a longer labour second time round and I quite often feel like it’s just me that got dealt that hand 😂

My 1st was born at 36 weeks. Labour was 19 hours long and pushed for around 20 minutes.🩷 My 2nd was born at 40+5. Labour was 16 hours long and pushed for around 20 minutes too.🩷 Both spontaneous labours. Xx

My first was 36+hrs, back labour, ventouse delivery, episiotomy and shoulder dystocia with a 10lb baby 😭 my second who is 7m now, was only 16hrs start to finish! Your body knows what it’s doing now so it can make it a whole lot easier and it’s easier to manage the pain too! Xx

yeah my first was around 10 hours, second was 5 hours from first contraction to birth, i only pushed for 9 minutes!

My first was 5 hours from my waters breaking and pushing for 20 mins whereas my second was 2 hours from waters breaking and 6 mins pushing! I’ve been extremely lucky with both my labours. Hope everything goes ok for you x
