Baby Utensils Introduction

When did you guys start letting your baby use their own utensils to eat with? My girl is almost 16 months and up to this point she’s either fed herself with her hands or I had fed her with a fork or spoon. I have OCD so I am trying to get over her being a messy eater when it comes time, but any tips or advice would be helpful!😭🫶🏼❤️ Picture of my girl so I don’t get lost🩷

i started around 8 months old, i knew it was going to be messy but she is doing a lot better now as it is a lot more controlled! She does better with a spoon than a fork though. Hard to see the mess, but it slowly gets better!

We started at 6 months when she started to eat. But she didn’t start using it more till closer to a year

She just need to practice. She’s not gonna know how unless she tried and it’ll take a while. My 3 year old still doesn’t always use silverware. It’s a lot of times hands.

We’ve given her a spoon since we introduced solids. The last few weeks she’s been doing amazing using them. Unfortunately making a mess is a huge part of their learning curve. We started off by just putting the silverware on her tray and letting her try. We’ve also loaded the spoon with food and then let her grab it. I’m promise, the mess gets easier and better. ***yes we had the tv in in the background. Please don’t judge ***

About 15 mos for my girl. Got the Dr browns fork and spoon set. AR first she jabbed at food but now she wants to use it to eat

My daughter was super interested in using utensils when she was 12 months. Now she's too impatient and sets the fork down to eat with her hands haha, she has gotten very good with spoons for yogurt and stuff. I always still give her utensils and I model how to use them everytime we eat.

I think around 10-11 months for us. He's gotten really good at it and actually prefers to eat with his fork than to get his hands dirty (which is really nice). My daughter on the other hand is a messyyyyy eater!!! She's 2.5 and I encourage the utensils but she very much prefers her hands. I read it's going to be like this until she's like 4-5 yo. 😆 🤦‍♀️ it's just easier for them. So you can encourage the utensils but honestly just gotta stay patient and learn to live with the mess for now. Always have wipes close by. 🙏 good luck mama!
