Is Tristan a name for girls or boys?

It took us so long to land on a name that we both love for our son and now that he is here, my husband’s family think they have a say in our baby’s name and are telling us it’s too girly and not good enough. I don’t know what the issue is because there are many gender neutral names out there and I didn’t even know Tristan was also a girl name. More so wanted to rant and get this annoyance off my chest. I don’t like that they’re trying to bully us into changing his name.

He’s your baby, forget the hate. Harder said than done - but honestly I’ve never heard of a girl Tristan 😂

I’ve heard Tristasia as a girls name but not Tristan being one.

Sorry to hear the unwanted opinions! I’ve only ever known male Tristan’s 🩵

Have them watch Legends of the Fall with Brad Pitt. His character is named Tristan. He definitely isn't girly.

Tristan definitely isn’t a girl name. In France at least it’s a boys name , with Celtic roots.

Have them watch Tristan & Isolde. Can’t get more masculine than a knight. Amazing name btw

Girly?! That’s Sir Tristan, Knight of the Round Table. Legendary companion of King Arthur of Camelot. It’s bad ass.

Lol I named my son June which people say is an old ladies name. Do what you feel most connected to. He’s your son!

It's a gender neutral name, I've known male Tristan and also female Tristan. However this day and age Tristan leans more towards males then females. So I wouldn't take what they say to heart.

I've always considered Tristan to be a male name and don't find it in any way feminine. Nice choice!

To me its unisex since i grew up with boys and girls named tristan. And both were teased here and there about their name being for the opposite gender. Its a great name either way

@Jennifer my husband was named Tristen after this movie!
