Sewing

I received a sewing/embroidery machine for Christmas and still have yet to use it. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to start practicing? Or any YouTube creators that have helped you through your journey?

Find a project that you’re motivated to do and try it out! I made very simple pillows in junior high when I first learned to sew, but the Woppet Bucket was the first project I did when I got my first sewing machine as an adult. If you can find a pillowcase kit or a pre-packaged project from a local fabric store, that would be good too.

@mothersewsbest on instagram!!

if you have tiktok i really like those videos bc they’re short and show examples. look up a rag quilt! or just start practicing with some squares and sewing them together! also look into using “backing as binding” and that makes it easier to finish some quilts

@rissewn on TikTok is awesome she has a free patreon account as well that's really easy to follow. She teaches everything from supplies to how to use the machine & it's all for beginners

For a super easy dress you can sew up in no time. https://www.joann.com/smocked-dress/92481907P100.html?redirected=1

Thank you everyone for your ideas! Might start a project this weekend!

My first functional project was a makeup brush roll to store and transport my makeup brushes! It was such an easy and functional first project. My mum and nanna loved them so much that I ended up making them for them for Christmas too! Similar to this but I ended up replacing the batting with felt to make it feel padded and I had some on hand and I used ribbon instead of sewing the ties https://weallsew.com/makeup-brush-roll-up-by-mimi-g-for-weallsew-com/
