Baby eczema

My baby is 8 months old and has had worsened eczema on her inner elbow and back of knees. Sometimes she’ll pick at it and itch at it throughout the day and wakes up crying at night itching it. We’ve taken her to the gp and they’ve prescribed her a low dose steroid cream. It did seem to work at first but it does keep coming back and I’m not comfortable applying it on her delicate skin all the time. We’ve made the decision to switch to goats milk formula hoping it might help reduce the eczema as some people have posted online saying it’s helped a lot. If that’s the case then I’m guessing it’s an intolerance to cows milk? Not entirely sure though. The gp said if the steroid cream doesn’t work we’ll have to use an even stronger one which I really don’t want to do. I’ve tried MooGoo but it didn’t help. Recently purchased Aveeno oat balm, moisturiser and body wash so I’ll be trying those out too. I should note - I only use organic cotton clothing, plant based sensitive skin laundry detergent, organic eczema association approved baby body wash. Any advice that could help would be amazing!

Hello! Our dermatologist advised to only use Omo sensitive when washing clothing and also apply Dermeze moisturizing cream at every nappy change. There is a thicker ointment but we felt this made our bub's skin worse so we kept to the lighter cream and it keeps him from scratching at it and gives the skin the time to heal. As he's gotten older we just apply morning and after bath, this seems to keep it at bay and only use the steroid cream when he has a bad flare up! There is also a company called Beetl that does eczema friendly creams? But that was recommended by a friend whose bub had a dermatological irritation rather than chronic eczema like our bub. Hope this helps! ♥️

@Deandra Thank you I appreciate this so much! Will definitely look into those xx

Non-perfumed soaps and laundry liquids. No softener. QV oil and moisturise several times a day.

Hello, try with Lipikar cleaning oil La Roche-posay during the bathtime and La Roche-posay Lipikar Baume AP+M Body balm as a moisturizer. I’m using those with my bub who had a really bad eczema and they helped her A LOT.

Hiya my bub has eczema as well it will always flare up but I find it’s best to go so simple no extra stuff like oats I found that irritated Bub more. Definitely use omo sensitive, qv baby wash and cerave moisturising cream i buy the tub it’s the exact same as the baby cream bottle but cheaper not a single difference in the ingredients as well to add an extra layer cicaplast baume is great as well

My 8 month old daughter also has eczema! She recently had an allergic reaction we think to oats. The GP said to see an allergist, but it's a 12 month wait. She said that using oat stuff on her skin may have triggered the allergy, and it definitely made her skin worse... We switched out all of the oat creams and washes as we were using them before she had the oats. I also only apply the steroid cream if it's bad and am using the low dose. We don't use much in her bath, just QV bath oil followed by QV baby! I've heard that applying the lotion onto damp skin and locking it in with Vaseline can help (I am yet to try). I apply and wipe her down with a cold, damp cotton cloth every nappy change. Also, keep an eye to see if she has any triggers with food. If her skin gets worse after eating a certain food. I think it's definitely trial and error with the lotions, etc. We've tried a few and am yet to find one that really works (moogoo being one of them). I've heard good things about dermal eczema cream.

Hello, my baby also has eczema. I tried various creams, but they didn’t help. With the help of a kinesiologist, I identified a connection between a food allergen and his eczema. I stopped giving him the allergen for a while, and the eczema went away. Hope this helps!

Are you breastfeeding or do you have any breast milk in the freezer? If so you can make a lotion from it! Or if you’re comfortable, using a friends breast milk.
