Can anyone explain this?

All with a spacing of 3 mins apart, 2 high and 1 normal… I’m going to ring the GD team today and have a chat about it all as I think going off my morning readings I need to go on metformin, but day time reads I never get a high!

Are you eating just before bed as I've found that helps keep my levels low for fasting morning one

@Laura no I thought that would make it worse 😩, I had my tea last night about 6:20pm and then did my last test at 7:20 xx

Hi, I’m in the same situation today ( fasting was 5 to 5.2 last week; now it’s slowing creeping up 5.3+ in week 29) and thinking of ringing the diabetes midwives. Just confused between metformin vs insulin.

@Holly nooo won't make it worse as when you are sleeping your body is trying to deal with glucose levels so eating before bed I've found helps mine last night I had Hartleys no sugar jelly pot with a spoonful of salted caramel protein yogurt and a no sugar no salt gluten free digestive biscuit broken up (deconstructed cheesecake) and my reading this morning was 4.5 and that was around 830pm so definitely worth trying having a snack rather than opting straight for metformin x

@Laura thank you so much!!! I’m definitely going to try that tonight, don’t suppose you know if I need to report that I’ve been getting high readings or do I just keep trying to keep them down? Xx

If you're doing it via the app the hospital can see it all but if you want to put in a call back for them they will call you and can set up an appointment with the dietician to help also x

@LauraSo, is this post dinner snack helping curb your fasting glucose? I finish my dinner early and then go for a walk thinking that will help keep fasting sugars low🙈

Yeah so this is my snack between 7:45 & 8:30pm and my readings in the morning are now between 4.5 and 5.1 so in green some other nights atm I'll mix it up and try a different protein dessert just a large spoonful and digestive biscuit or 3 crackers with a cheese spread on them and it seems to help

@Laura definitely going to give this try tonight and see what happens!! Xxx

Those are good readings for fasting I wouldn’t be worried if I was you. The midwife will call you if they think you need to go on insulin.

@Kathryn in my hospital trust in UK, they call and ask to start us on meds (first choice metformin) when two consecutive readings are above 5.3 mmol/L. And on my last consultant appointment he said lower is better.. and that the next 4 weeks (28-32 wk) it could get difficult to manage due to rising insulin resistance from pregnancy hormones in the final trimester. This is why I’m just worried everytime I see a value above 5.3.

@Zoya yep they called me and offered that too. I declined it, and everything was fine. A lot of my morning readings were above 6. Baby was born by induction at 40+3 and she weighed 8lb7.5oz so not as big as they said she might be but she was completely fine. Didn’t need forceps or anything she came out in 2 pushes. Not saying that declining it is the right thing to do for everyone, I feel like it’s always important to follow your gut, but the occasional 5.5 doesn’t seem that bad.

@Holly how was your fasting results this morning?

@Laura it was 5.2 normal range 🥰 x

@Holly yayy thought it would work so pleased you got it down x

Have they remained down since eating before bed?

@Laura it was 0.1 over this morning unfortunately! But we did have a bad night with my little girl so we ended up eating our food late last night :( X

That's probably what caused it to go over as stress, poor sleep, sickness all affect it

Ya, point estimates (1 or 2h after meal) for me are in range. It’s just the amount of time requiring my body to peak and come back to stable. Beacauee sometimes the trend starts going upwards after 1-2hr so a point estimate would miss the peak all together. It can only be seen in a continuous monitor. But I am not too worried about it right now. If the fasting starts rising I’ll let the diabetes team know 🙈
