I've just been giving him a spoon and fork and letting him explore in between him using his fingers and me feeding him bits. Sometimes I load a bit onto his spoon and put it in his hand and he'll put it in his mouth. Sometimes I load it on and leave it on the tray for him to work out and sometimes i just give him the spoon unloaded. Let him explore, trial and error. Forks good as I can stab it for him and he can put it in his mouth without it falling off. I still feed him bits to make sure he's getting enough

Babies learn through imitation so as long as you’re eating with them and demonstrating how to use cutlery they will pick it up. Our LO would practice with anything and everything. You’d see her playing with a toy in the living room and doing the scoping motion before she started doing it with her porridge at breakfast

Monkey see, monkey do! Lots of modelling. But what really gets my LG using a spoon is yoghurt. I pop a bit of yoghurt in the little part of her plate, then preload a little on her Doddl spoon. She's now grasped scooping up but struggles with more solid things so we only really use the spoon for a few things. Yoghurt is nice and easy to start too as it doesn't necessarily need the scooping motion, when she first started it was more of a dip but that was enough to get some yoghurt on the spoon.
