Weaning not going great 😩

Is anyone else struggling to get much food into their babies? We started with puréed foods and our baby girl took to them amazingly, I was so pleased. Now she’s going crazy and cry’s over the spoons, wants to play and I’m struggling to get much in without her eventually crying. So I thought I’d move to baby led weaning so she had control because she wants to do everything her self at the moment and is craving freedom. I thought that would do the trick but unfortunately she just sucks on the food and not much is getting swallowed. So I thought try again with purée but with a bit of texture and all she does is gag. I’ve had to delete social media because I was sick of getting baby weaning videos of Mums showing you what their babies had eaten all day. It’s hard to watch and not compare yourself. Is anyone else struggling?

I asked a very similar question yesterday. I'm in the same boat it's so hard to see these other babies eat loads of food and mine will just suck on toast. I think we just need to keep trying different things and eventually it will click with them. But you are not alone xx

Oh it’s so annoying isn’t it @Lesley-Ann ? Is your baby also not taking in much milk? I think ours is getting just enough to make her not want her bottles but 40 mins later I have a cranky baby who realises she’s still hungry. So I’m constantly getting tiny 1oz-2oz scattered throughout the day. We’ve got zero routine now, I’m wasting so much food and formula but what else can I do 🤷🏼‍♀️ the kids got to be fed.

Yeah we have gone from 5 bottles to 4 bottles but even then he's not finishing them like he used to. Yeah there is no routine in our house at the minute 😔

Aww I’m sorry you’re having a rubbish time too. Let’s just hope we’ll end up with happy little foodies one of these days 🫶🏼

So I’m doing BLW, and some days she might really do well at the food and others not much goes in. At this age, I’m not really concerned about how much I’d really consumed… for me it’s an exploration thing, she’s exploring new textures and flavours and actually swallowing is a bonus! It’s a massive learning curve for them to learn to move food both into and around their mouths, did you know their tongues don’t instinctively know how to move food around? They have to learn! Give them time and give yourself grace x

No I didn’t realise that they have to learn the tongue thing @Miriam I went to NCT classes which at the time I thought was really great but I swear I’d of preferred to have known so much more about these types of topics and general life with a baby stuff because it’s so fiddly to navigate what’s ok and what’s not. X
