How are we keeping cats out of our babies cribs??

FTM here currently 21+5 and due in August 🥰 We have two amazing Maine coon boys who are super affectionate and love to be where their humans are. We know they're just going to be the best big brothers, but they also don't know their own size / strength at times. We bought next 2 me crib and moses basket over the weekend, and already they're acting like it's for them so we have kept mattresses / bedding out and are just seeing how they behave / telling them to get off when we catch them. Our worry is that they're both around 8kg and are super affectionate gentle giants, we don't want to shut them out of our room when baby's here but also know they'll probably try to jump in with her. They hate shut doors and it causes them stress and one of them to constantly wail. I also don't want baby being here to make them feel excluded and therefore not take to her. What safe methods are we all using to ensure cats stay out of the crib? Thanks xxx

My cat was so bad before our son was born for constantly sleeping in his next to me. Only had it out the month before he was born. Once he arrived she never went in it again, occasionally lay under it. We were so worried she'd try sleep in with him

@M see I've got it set up for the time being because sometimes I'm a sleepwalker and the cats aren't the only ones who need to get used to it being there 😂🙈 I thought it'd help. They're really interested in all of baby's things. Did you just wait and see what your cat did? I feel so scared they'd go in and I wouldn't wake up for whatever reason to get them out. X

@Charlie haha that makes sense. It took me time getting used to the next to me too. We also wanted to.get our cat used to some of the baby stuff being around. Yee we never really stopped her or told her off (not that you can really tell a xat off 🤣) we honestly were the same and so surprised she didn't. She'd get close to him but never stayed

We have two cats too, also v affectionate and love to sleep with us but we made the decision to keep them out of the bedroom from now on. Was so hard to do and nearly broke my heart the first night but we made the living room like their bedroom and actually they seem totally fine 🫠
