Anyone else have an extremely picky toddler?

My son can eat anything but the issue im having is he is extremely extremely picky.. to the point I have a binder with his likes and dislikes. I can’t keep just feeding him apple sauce pouches (which are one of his safe foods) im just at a loss he wants to eat but he refuses 99% of what I try to feed him. He also have texture sensitives to fabrics, he doesn’t like loud sounds or bright lights. And the second I mention he could be autistic other moms shoot me down saying I shouldn’t be running for a diagnosis

My son is also very picky (not quite to this extent, but he will refuse most foods). I’ve found offering a variety of foods, but always offering a ‘safe’ food along side them helps. That way he’s not going hungry, but is being exposed to the other foods. Now and then he’ll surprise me and try something he usually refuses. My son is also particularly fussy with other things (textures, routine etc) however his nursery teachers haven’t flagged any concerns yet so not looking for a diagnosis yet.

@Em I try to offer a bite of everything I eat and he’ll try it once but most of the time spits it out, if it’s sticky, messy, has a strong flavor, wet/mushy. He refuses

Follow your instincts! I don’t personally understand why other people would shoot you down for wanting your child to be seen by someone ❤️ Early intervention can be extremely beneficial! They probably have just never been in your shoes. To share a personal story, my stepson is pretty restrictive on what he eats due to texture (has been since early toddlerhood). He is 11 and was finally just diagnosed with mild autism and moderate ADHD. As a parent, I think having that knowledge and getting some professional support really decreases your stress and worry! I don’t think there is benefit in waiting if you’re concerned about your son’s nutrition and he’s showing other signs of autism as well.

@Megan Otte we have to do monthly weight checks because he just won’t eat anything that isn’t a safe food and he has hardly any safe foods

@Emmaleah sounds scary!! I’m sure you’ve tried everything you can think of ❤️ do you have psychology and occupational therapy resources in your area? What has his pediatrician said?

My son is 16 months old he is also very very picky. When he was a baby and we started giving solids he was eating and trying everything but then he just kinda stick with pouches and apple sauces, now he can eat little French fries, pancakes and he eats fruits. But he drink lots of milk and he seem fine to me, which is his acting normal, playing like always so I’m not worrying. I guess all kids are different, and some just don’t eat much

My son is also picky. Doesn't like cheese, pasta, rice or any veggies 🫠 only likes berries, ground meats and bread basically. He's almost 25 pounds so he's gaining weight normally. Most toddlers are picky and their appetite decreases at this age so it's normal if they skip meals too. I've read that you should look at their week of eating rather than the day.
