I did baby led weaning, looked for signs of wanting food. For instance following food with her eyes when we were eating. Paying attention to cues really helps a lot. My daughter had an entire chicken leg at 51/2 months and loved it. I tried at 5 months but she wasn’t ready yet. She didn’t care for it the 1st time.
Minimum of 6months from my pediatrician. Though we waited until closer to 7 months and still only really do purées because she doesn’t have the chewing part down yet and chokes.
The recommendation is 6 months to allow for little ones digestive system to be strong enough to handle new foods. I started to wean my son a week or so before he turned 6 months (after consulting his paediatrician) because he was very hungry & milk wasn’t filling him up 😂 Here’s a good resource I used along with pretty much everything we ate as a family, full of lots of bright colours & textures puréed: https://www.ellaskitchen.co.uk/join-ellas-friends?srsltid=AfmBOopzX8ycBIu4xzECze2yvsdx-UEkfPKEeRjK3MWbj2fHOK8I1TSP All the best 🫶🏻
6 months …it was actually really fun for us :)
6 months x
Exactly at 6 months, because baby wasn’t interested yet
I started both my boys at 4 months. And did baby led weaning with my second at 6 months. My oldest has a issue with textures so I wanted to avoid that and so far my second who is 18 months eats anything
4 months! Started with purées (baby led weaning didn’t work for us because my baby had teeth and would bite chunks off). After a few months of basic purées I literally feed her everything. She will eat anything.
i started around 6 months, but honestly, just go with your baby's cues and talk to your doc if you're unsure, it can be a bit nerve-wracking, but you'll figure it out! 😊 here's what the 'Heal App' says.... "It's completely normal to feel a bit anxious about starting solids! Most pediatricians recommend introducing baby food or purees around 6 months, but some babies may be ready a little earlier, around 5 to 6 months. Signs of readiness include being able to sit up with support, showing interest in food, and having good head and neck control. If you're considering starting now, you can try offering single-grain cereals or pureed fruits and vegetables in small amounts. Just remember to introduce one new food at a time and watch for any signs of allergies. How does your baby seem to respond to new textures or foods?
6 months
i started a couple of weeks ago when my son was 5 months and 3 weeks. you’re supposed to wait till they can sit by themselves and are interested in food etc., and he can just about sit almost unaided now. not doing baby led weaning cause choking hazards scare the living crap out of me. i’m feeding him purées, working up to more solid food. if your baby is interested in your food and can sit up fairly steadily, i’d go for it
We started with 1 meal of puree at 5 months as she was showing signs of rediness. We started with 3 spoonfuls and gradually increased, and gradually added lumps. When she was ok with that meal and ready for a second meal, we introduced things like omelette and other soft finger foods so she could explore a range of tastes and textures and learn how to chew. This was around 6.5 - 7 months. She is a brilliant eater and eats everything I eat now. We all eat at the time, so she is included in at meal times :)
Anytime my lo had reached for food I gave her a taste, it’s always gonna be a scary feeling but this is prime time to work on their taste buds and give them bits of everything. My daughter was six months and I shared everything I was eating with her like steak, eggs, spaghetti sauce. They’ll just kinda rub their gums on it lol
