Boiling water for formula

We have recently switched to formula and my little one tends to wake up and is crying ready for food instantly. We have been boiling the kettle, adding the amount of water and formula to the nuby rapid cool and mixing and cooling it down so it’s all ready within a few minutes (I don’t mind washing and sterilizing the rapid cool after each feed so don’t do the hot shot method). The instructions on the formula say to boil the kettle and wait 30 minutes and no longer, but there is no way they could wait that long for a feed once they wake up. Is it okay to add the boiling water straight from the kettle to the formula?

My health visitor told me using boiling water that’s has just boiled kills the goodness in the formula that’s why the recommended waiting the 30 mins🤷🏼‍♀️ never know what to believe these days. I use a flask which then isn’t boiling but don’t let it go lower than 70 degrees

I’ve also had questions over this, I’m not sure if you follow Ruth the health visitor on socials but she says it needs to be 70 degrees or higher therefore I believe pouring from boiling is ok, Saying all that, sometimes when I measure out the water in my bottle, I leave that smaller amount to sit for maybe 3-4 mins before adding to the nuby and adding powder and I find that reduces the temp way quicker as it’s not the entire kettle having to cool down

HV advised me wait 20-30 mins for water to cool before adding the powder formula and so I ended up buying ready made bottles for night feeds and it’s made through the night so much easier, they just need to be warmed🤗

I always have one bottle with cooled down boiled water and one with boiled water and combine the two before each feed to get lukewarm water. My whole family did the same with all their babies x

I didn't realise you couldn't add boiling water!

The nhs website states to let it cool for ‘no more than 30 minutes’ so that the water is ‘at least 70C’. It does not mention any problems with the water being too hot. So it’s my understanding that you can use it immediately.

I was going to say the same as Paige. You wait no longer than 30 minutes so you can use the water straight away, but if it was boiled over 30 minutes ago then you can’t use it. Another thing we do now is we’ve bought a flask that shows the temperature on the top and we use that. We boil the kettle, put it in the flask, and as long as the temperature is above 70° when you need to use it then you don’t have to wait whilst the kettle boils each time.

@Jennifer what flask is this please ☺️
