Work

I’m due to go back to work in a few months. At the moment we claim universal credit to top up my wage but they said we need to look for childcare. I’ve looked at all the nursery/private childminders in my area and they’re all either full till 2027 or don’t allow the free hours. Also our family’s are unable to help with childcare due to their work. Has anyone just not gone back to work but still claim UC? How is everyone making it work?

You have no obligation to work until baby is 3 when you claim UC but you will start having meetings once they’re 1 and so fourth until they’re 3 and they expect you to have a job by then. Obviously you’ll get your full entitlement minus your husbands wages but it won’t match up to you working x

@Bex I just find it all so complicated😩 so the money I get from UC during the 3 months unpaid maternity leave is basically what I’d get if I wasn’t employed anywhere?

yeah pretty much!

@Bex thank you! You literally can’t get a straight answer from anywhere😂😂

I joined a really good group on FB called ‘universal credit survival’ The admin on there are really knowledgable ☺️

@Bex thank you x
