Rickets

Has anyone ever experienced this with their baby? Did they get better and were there any lasting effects? Just found out my 1 year old may have rickets and he’s just started a higher dose of vitD, iron and multi vit. The dr didn’t seem too concerned but said since I have been ebf he probably didn’t get enough vit from my milk the first 6 months before he started solids so now he has to catch up. I can’t help but feel guilty like my milk wasn’t good enough. He’s not walking yet but it’s rolling around and kicking his feet and it a happy boy. I feel like I have failed him. 😭

You have not failed him❤️ I haven’t experienced this but just wanted to say that. If your doctor isn’t concerned and you already have a plan of action just focus on those things that you can control now, you’re clearly a great mom and from my limited knowledge rickets is pretty common and self corrects. Keep your head up!

@Autumn bless you Autumn. Thank you so much! 🥹💖

Breastfed babies in less sunny climates (like the UK) ideally need vitamin D as a top up from birth. It's the only thing breastmilk can't give them. This should've been made clear from any antenatal classes and appointments you went to or checks before baby was a year old. It's a shame you didn't have the information but there's nothing wrong with your milk. Hopefully the extra vitamins now will sort it out!
