Smoking weed during pregnancy

I’m having a hard time quitting weed. I have stopped but I do smoke some times. I’m about 14 weeks pregnant. Has anyone else smoked weed while pregnant? Did you have any issues?

I personally didn’t but I know a handful of people who did. The risks are typically low birth weight or early labour, I believe. But it’s worth looking into it a bit! No one I know had any issues but they did all find alternative ways to not actually smoke it.

The THC passes from you to your baby and could affect development. It’s really up to you if you want to roll the dice, I wouldn’t. The stakes are too high.

I can't relate to this, but something to consider is that although weed is a plant and natural, your brain isn't fully developed until your mid 20s, and it will have an effect on your brain until then. So I can't imagine it would be ideal for a fetus and their tiny growing brain. Also asking other people about something not recommended or considered unsafe would just get survivor's bias responses. Just because they did it and "everything was fine," doesn't mean it would be fine for your baby. There's a reason that some things shouldn't be consumed/used during pregnancy.

I hope you can find a way to stop. I smoked unknowing I was pregnant and stopped once I knew. Which was at 4weeks. The risks are not worth taking if it affects your baby’s health in my opinion.

I’ve asked multi ppl the same question everyone has there own opinions I’ve asked online OB doctors n they say it’s not recommended. They never said it was bad for baby

It’s impossible to say that weed hurts a fetus because there are no randomized controlled trials and conducting one would be unethical. I personally do not think it is wise, given that there’s no clear evidence either way.

I didn’t (and won’t) smoke right now, but I do know someone who smoked up during her pregnancy. Her daughter is absolutely perfect. This doesn’t mean you should!!! Like anything else, just err on the side of caution, use your best judgment and use common sense. Example: I’m not drinking alcohol during pregnancy, but I have eaten a few ham sandwiches.

@Louna Is there any way to know which states would involve CPS if THC were to be found in my bloodstream? I am located in California and I’ve been debating on whether or not to ask my OB if it’s ok.. should I tell her or no ???

@Louna is there a risk of having CPS involved if I did ask my OB ? Could she report it??

@Analise this is why I’ve discontinued my use. I don’t wanna take any risks 🙁

I don't think there are any studies that day yes or no, so it continues to be not recommended. I quit as soon as I found out I was pregnant but I def crave it 😭 it was my version of a glass of wine at the end of the night.

I’m pretty sure the hospital could and would involve CPS in a failed drug screen so there’s that….. Not to mention your passing it to baby.

My view- occasional/light marijuana use is fine. I take gummies a few times a week so I can actually sleep through the night. I stopped smoking while pregnant. I feel like smoking/vaping while pregnant has more harmful effects? I haven’t been able to find any research that definitively proves the effects marijuana has on a fetus 🤷🏼‍♀️

I smoked weed my whole last pregnancy. Heavy edibles I’m talking 800-1000 mg my tolerance was insane. I had complications such as excess amniotic fluid, partial prevea, and hg. Some of those issues are correlated in some studies are marjauan related. HG can be made worse by it during this pregnancy I’m clean and my symptoms are easing up dramatically in comparison. I will say I did get a problem with weaning my Little while smoking and breastfeeding where my boobs started producing puss. This is related to smoking and breastfeeding. My sons top percentile and excelling in every aspect, no judgements. But do take my experience into consideration

@Reilly That was really brave of you to share your experience. Thank you for that.
