Losing hair due to ghusl

I've just started praying. I have to do ghusl daily. I'm only washing my hair with conditioner not shampoo as I know it is damaging to use shampoo every day. I have dry curly European hair. I've noticed this last few days that lots of hair is coming out after washing, in small bunches even without brushing. I'm not sure what to do in this case because i don't want to lose my hair! :( I'm born Muslim but my mum is not Muslim so nobody really taught me about anything and I'm learning everything from YouTube so if someone could guide me on this matter. Thank you

To note, I am also pregnant

You can just use water sis instead of conditioner, and then put some light oil or leave in conditioner after to prevent hair drying out. Maybe oil your scalp 30mins before washing too to keep it moisturised. Depending on what stage you’re at in pregnancy some people can shed more hair in the first two trimesters and then tend to stop shedding near the end. I’ve heard some women she’d hair during pregnancy too due to deficiencies etc so maybe also get blood work done.

I’m the same sis but ive had the healthiest hair this last few months because i just shampoo and condition my hair once a week the other days i just wash it with just water

@Ilayda isn't conditioner good for the hair? I assumed it would do no harm if using it every day.

Yea conditioning hair is good but not everyday and you can just make ghusl with water. Too much of something is always bad ✨

Oh my bad, I just saw you said you have curly hair! Curly hair loves moisture! Use some leave in conditioner (different from regular conditioner) when your hair is wet. You don’t need to rinse it out. This helps keep your hair hydrated. Hydrated curly hair reduces breakage!! You can top with some oil to lock it in. I would also advise doing some cute braid looks like a French braid as braided curly hair can also reduce breakage and helps protect the hair and the good thing is…you don’t need to take them out to perform ghusl. There’s so much curly hair care online. Check them out on YouTube or tiktok. And deffo invest in the satin pillow case or a cute hair bonnet..so important for curly hair. May Allah make it easy for you!

Pick certain days where you take an “extra care shower” and only use shampoo and conditioner then. Maybe 3-5x a week. The other days just hop in the shower after sex for a quick rinse (water only) and wudu.

@Ilayda I agree with this

Yess agree with all of the the above as well as satin pillow. I also used a more natural shampoo for the few days I did wash with it and not just water. i also am v bad at getting my hair trimmed etc but I went for a proper haircut and she recommended a keratin treatment so I didn't use any heat or toxic products on it for about 8 months, cooler water rather than hot water from washing, and pregnacare vitamins. If you're wearing hijab, or keeping your hair tied up in any way, look up traction alopecia also and try to avoid this. Also remember that hair will ALWAYS come out. Unless you're getting patches or scarring it likely will regenerate. Good luck x

@Kay water only doesn't seem to be making a difference and my hair seems to be coming out drastically. I don't think I can wash my hair anymore even just with water

Oh no sis you have to then just start putting hair cream and serum to hr scalp and take vitamins

There’s nothing else you can do and so sorry May Allah make it easy for you and all the sisters

Since i became a hijabi 2 years now ive lost all my baby hair and even more, i cried for a few days when i first noticed but understood that there’s nothing much i can do other than buy some good serums for my hair and take my vitamins ✨❤️

Tbh whether you wash it or not the hair would have come out, it would just come out as shedding through the day. Because water doesn’t cause hair fall, it’s due to the roots which the water doesn’t get to as it’s within the layer of skin in the scalp. It seems like it could be hormonal. And I’ve seen this kind of hair loss when I had iron deficiency (which is also more common in pregnancy). Definitely get it checked out and eat lots of protein, fruits and veg. If you’re taking prenatal vitamins that’s great, but if you have a severe deficiency (like iron) then you’d need extra on top of the amount in the prenatal. Serums are a good idea too

Hey sis, I don’t know if you’re pregnant atm or how far along you are. When I was in the first trimester I lost ALOT of hair but Alhamdulillah im entering my 3rd trimester now and it’s coming back. Try putting your hair in protective styles and moisturising/ oiling it as much as you can ❤️
