Cat net on crib not working well

Hi, can anyone help come up with a better solution for my cat other than having to lock him out, we will do that as a last resort as obviously he is a suffocation hazard for baby however if anyone has a better suggestion / idea that doesn’t involve locking him out and is better than what we currently have which is a useless cat net 🙈

I wouldn’t take any risk and I’d just lock cat out… Baby comes first and you can never be 100% with cat being in the room

Is baby here yet? I was concerned but as soon as baby arrived the cats never went in it again.

Cucumber 🥒 or a fake snake toy

Aluminum works 100%

@Carol why have you written duh ? No need to be rude…

@Charlotte oh I wasn’t trying to!!!!! I was joking about the spray bottle. I didn’t think they were actually used on cats (I have never had a cat) I’m sorry

Perhaps a harmless air sprayer which is activated every time kitty gets in the crib. It gives a puff of air - it works as a deterrent . I used them to train my cats to stay off the tables and kitchen counters . Also, can you get your beautiful cat his own new elevated cat castle with a cozy place to perch? Perhaps he will abandon baby’s new bed . It’s called Petsafe SSS Cat.

lock the cat out mine are still locked out of room and she’s 3 months and they are gonna stay locked out until she’s a toddler

@Jackie not yet x okay good to know thanks x

I would set up a nice enclosed cat bed or get a box for the kitty to be in, cats love small spaces since they feel safe in them so I would give him his own kitty crib to lay in

@Stephanie thank you ! would you mind sending the link to this one, I can’t find it xx

The cat wants it and rules the house lol.

@Carol not every cat responds well to spray bottles. That’s not an effective way to train cats anyways. Cats will do what they want and self reward when you’re away anyways… duh.

I also had some old Halloween doormats - plastic ones that when you stepped on them they made a screaming noise - scared my cat and he never got up on my dresser again. If you have anything like that it might do the trick. They were cheap and I bought them at Walgreens years ago, but maybe u can find something like that online. Back when my daughter was small we had Pack n Play a crib playpen combo. I was terrified one of my two cats would get in with her as they seemed to be fascinated by it. Once she arrived they never got in with her but they would sit on the arm of the sofa and watch her . Good luck with your new baby and your cat!

Iv heard putting balloons in the cot and then if they jump in and pop a balloon the noise will deter them from doing it again.

I second foil

We’ve shut the cats out overnight, but have put tin foil in there for now for good measure, so they don’t associate it as a place of comfort!

I tried lots of things but have had to resort to locking them out 🙁 we have next to me in our room, cot in the nursery and a playpen cot downstairs and when we lock them out of our room at night they sleep in one of the other ones anyways so think all we’ll always have to lock them out wherever baby is! They have never got in with him, but one of my cats is 10kg so even riskier! I swear the cats love all the baby stuff, they are obsessed with the car seat 😂 Good luck!

My cat was obsessed with the cot when we first put it up. The minute we brought our son home and he went in it she stayed away. He's almost 2 now and she still will only go near his cot on a very rare occasion and never when he's in it. I've never locked her out

Ask Jackson Galaxy? 😂 yeah, I agree with those who suggested getting another box-like pad that makes him feel more comfy than the cot. Place it slightly higher on the wall if possible with a cat highway to get to it. And reward him whenever he is on the desired cat pad.

If you find something that works, will you post about it? I’m worried about this as well once my first is here, my cats don’t let us close doors in our home 😅we would get no sleep if we tried. I’m looking for a bassinet cover that is cat resistant

@🖤🥀Beth🥀🖤 wow!! Definitely not a pet lover.

@🖤🥀Beth🥀🖤 lol that is very spicy. To incognito, I do agree that animals aren't on the same level as children. However, they can still be in the same household and live peacefully with some common sense. You don't have to get rid of a peaceful animal, like this cat seems to be. Looks like a ragdoll of some type, which is what I would want if I had a cat.

Look Crib cat protector on Amazon 😊there’s some more heavy duty lookin ones.

@Meg honestly once I had the aluminum foil in their they never tried to go in it, I'm sure all pets are different but it's a really inexpensive thing to try out ❤️

My old cat before she was put down (due to her leukemia) she used to put her self in the crib and we just stuff our stuffed animals in the crib, and once our was here she stopped putting herself in the crib cause she was afraid of a screaming baby🤷🏼‍♀️ even my dog was tired of hearing a screaming baby🤣 every time she screamed to be feed our dog would look at us trying to tell us to shut the baby up or even leave the room cause it bothered her🤷🏼‍♀️

I shut my bedroom door now. It's not worth the risk. If your LO isn't here yet this is the perfect time to start shutting the cat out! It gives them time to get used to it. I started 2 months before baby arrived!

My cat used to do this before I had my daughter but once I had her he does not go in it if she's in it and honestly not even a lot when she's not in it.

@🖤🥀Beth🥀🖤 she blocked me as well so I can't see the post either!

Put aluminum foil in the bottom of the cot. They hate it

@🖤🥀Beth🥀🖤 she either took the post down or she blocked me all cause I told her this ain't high-school no more and she should grow up and move on🤣

I’ve got two cats - just lock them out and give them a cosy alternative. They will be fine.

We put a net over the cot and our cat did the same. Nothing could stop her 🤣

@🖤🥀Beth🥀🖤 she did block me completely I'm getting no notification at all I love how she's hiding behind her little ingoneto (how ever you spell you) and can't own on who she is🤷🏼‍♀️ clearly something happened to her that she's lashing out to people

Nothing can stop a ragdoll

I can’t even see the post @🖤🥀Beth🥀🖤

Ours weren’t that bothered with it once the baby came. But we did put foil out for good measure. We locked them out for a bit at the start and had foil by the door because they scratch at it. They used to love sleeping in the room that she’s now in and I was worried about putting her in there but they haven’t set foot in there since we transferred.

The chances are once baby is here they won't go near it. We ended up locking ours out but mainly because one of mine is very nervy and will bite if scared. But one of mine would be I the cot every opportunity before he was here and they haven't gone in his cot and now bed since. I found the nets just encouraged them more

@Mechelle that's exactly what I did,!

My cat found the moses basket amazing until my son was born and the cat was terrified of the baby for a couple of weeks and has never been into the basket/cot with my son. Now the cat will sit on my bedside table looking into the cot checking up on my son and nuzzling the bars like a tart wanting attention but still has never jumped into it 🙂

My cat did this before my son came along. Then when he was here the cat didn’t go into the crib at all. We used the net though. X

My cat was the opposite of most. He never even got curious about the crib until after my baby was sleeping in it. I found the cat in the crib with my son twice and now I close the nursery door. I just bring the cat to bed with me so the cat gets attention and leaves the nursery door alone.

Mine would do it all the time before baby came but once baba came she stopped. The closest she would ever get was on our bed during the day to curl up and sleep with him that way but at night we just set up a blanket (not that she even used it 🤣) in the living room and shut the bedroom door xxx

No solution as i dont have cats but your partner is hilarious! 😅

I have 2 ragdolls that we’re obsessed with the babies things before he was born, when he arrived they were very aware of him and now don’t go in his cot at all. I’d advise you to see how things go, or put a double bed sheet over the top, that way if they do jump on hairs aren’t getting in the cot itself x

I have two cats and they loved sleeping in our room, but we had to lock them out ….they have the whole house to themselves, but when your getting up to do feeds you really don’t want to have to keep putting stuff in and out the crib to stop them getting in ….because you know as soon as you turn ur back they are quick ! Not only that you can’t put stuff in there when the baby is sleeping in it, and the cat will go in and sleep in there ….your cat trying to claim it as there bed that’s what cats do. If you start to shut her out now it will get easier ….took our cats a month to stop meowing and attaching the door …..honestly the best decision we made xx

I had to lock my cat out of our bedroom. It was his safe place but my piece of mind was more important, I needed to know my baby was safe at all times so I didn't risk leaving her alone with the cat. She's 2 now and I still shut her down at night because our cat jumps up and down from her window sill and it would wake her up x

Be on the safe side: A family member of mine unfortunately lost his newborn sister because the family cat curled up in the Moses basket when the baby was in there. Don’t think the cat had showed much of an interest before and the parents only popped out of the room for a moment.

Whatever you do, don't do peppermint or other smells etc. They deter cats but are also very toxic to them

Unfortunately I have to lock my cats out. They're obsessed with all the baby stuff
