Royal stoke hospital

Anyone else think that it wasn't up to standards? Myself and friend have been in for 5 days, after having babies a day apart I was in a side room on 206, and my friend was in a bay on same ward. Mau.. no issues Delivery ward.. no issues Just 206 The cleanliness was awful. I have complained. Sodexo came in to empty the bins daily, but from the Sunday I was in there from, no one cleaned the room until the tuesday I have worked on the wards. And my knowledge they should be cleaned at least twice a day including all touch points. With it being such a vulnerable ward too My other issue was I'm allergic to penicillin. I was being screened for sepsis, and in all the commotion they gave me penicillin straight into my cannular!

Hi lovely! Congrats on your beautiful babies being born first of all! I’m really sorry to hear that you’ve not been fully happy with the hospital, I’ve had some bad times there too which is why I signed up to volunteer for the maternity neonatal voices partnership for Royal Stoke and we pass feedback onto the head of midwifery so we can fight for change. Would you mind if I passed this on? I can keep your name anonymous if needs be xx

Congratulations to you on baby! I've had mixed experiences so far I couldn't get through to mau on an emergency so I had to contact my midwife and was sent for an emergency scan when they couldn't get baby's heartbeat luckily everything was fine she was just on her stomach. I just wish I could have gotten straight through to mau. And I've had a positive experience with how good they were during that scan when I was terrified. I really hope everything is ok and you recover soon. I'll keep an eye on the penicillin as I'm allergic too. I hope you feel better soon x

Definitely agree. Aside from some wonderful midwives that made up for it, the care I received was absolutely appalling! The cleanliness I agree wasn't up to standard and the communication was non existent! We also received our daughter's discharge notes in the post that state she received antibiotics due to maternal sepsis which was never mentioned during our stay. I knew I'd been screened and they were loading me up with antibiotics and said my results were fine when I asked but continued the antibiotics and when I queried it they couldn't answer me. There is a long list of other screw ups from our stay too!

100% Agree! I was so disappointed with the level of care that i received when having my LG. When i went in for my induction, i was shown to my room and there was a urine sample left in the bathroom!! How do they even miss something like that?? You’d hope that the bathroom of all places would be cleaned properly 😕 Then, 24 hours after starting my induction with a pessary, my partner and I were left alone in my room for a full day & night, only checked on once during the entire day, and no one told us what was going on. Given that my induction was advised due to reduced movements, they only monitored my baby’s heart rate & movements once during this time too ☹️ Then i was taken to theatre (later proven to be unnecessary) because someone was waiting for my room on the labour ward, who we literally saw going in there as i was leaving & they definitely didn’t take the time to clean it before i left! I’m considering making a complaint but just can’t decide if it’s worth it x

@Jasmine so sorry to hear you had a bad time 😫 I’m a maternity voices volunteer for royal stoke and I’m fighting so hard to make your voices heard. It’s not ok how you’re being treated xx

I had a traumatic time at the Royal Stoke, not so much the labour but the aftercare, especially when my baby stopped breathing and was taken to neo natal. I was then put on ward 206 and if it wasn't for the odd few ppl I would of gone mad, some of the staff I find hard to believe they have any compassion and should look at a career change. It was horrific, and it's 6 months later, and I am still dealing with the experience . I will when able to mentally be making a complaint.

@Alex That’s heartbreaking, I’m so sorry! I’m a maternity voices volunteer for Royal Stoke hospital and we take feedback and complaints to push for better services for women. Please could I share this with the head of maternity at stoke? I’ll cover your name if you’d prefer xx

Please do, and I have no problems with you using my name. Can I ask who the head of maternity is ?

@Alex Thank you very much. I’m unable to give contact details on a forum like this as it does breach a policy. However if you would like personal details to contact for complaints or for it to be escalated to the head of maternity then please message me privately 😊

Yes some of the midwives and health care (especially maggie) were amazing during my stay. My friend had a completely different experience with her team of midwives. Said it was horrific!

@kim That’s so sad 😞 I’m very glad to hear that Maggie was amazing though. If you don’t mind then I’ll psss that onto her xx

Maggie and the student midwife lissi I think her name was, both were amazing x

I've just had a 5 day stay on 205 and listened to some lovely midwives slagging me off for being there with a headache 🤣 mri showed I have intercranial pressure and narrowing of arteries in my brain. I was in absolute agony and will need stents once baby is here. Diabetic and was left without food, wasn't given my pain meds because 'she can wait its just a headache' lots of issues. I've put a complaint in. I ended up self discharging 11pm after I was left with no food again as I had a brain scan at meal time then they wouldn't order me anything 🤣

@Heather-Jayde I’m so sorry that this happened to you. Is there anything I can do to help support you as a maternity voices champion? Perhaps I could give you the contact details to make a compliant should you wish to?

@Becky aw thanks, but I have already made a complaint. I am a nurse myself so utterly appalled at the behaviour. Fortunately my room was right by the nurse station so heard lots of inappropriate conversations regarding patients. Staff attitude was just appalling. I will be changing hospital to give birth at as I know I'll be having baby early due to diabetes and high BP and I want to avoid any chance of being on that ward.

@Heather-Jayde No problem at all. Honestly I’m astonished at the behaviour of some midwives these days. It’s not ok!xx

@Amy I’m really sorry you went through this, are you happy for me to report back to the royal stoke Maternity voices team anonymously for feedback? I can also send you complaint contacts if needed :(

I absolutely hated my experience. Ward 205. Now I’m not slim girl but I know there are bigger ladies than me. When they lost my baby heart rate for the second time the midwife said how do you expect me find a tiny heart beat when there is so much of you. They never give me any wound care after my emergency c section I ended with a really bad infection. I was holding my baby boy and left a teddy in his crib and she took it out and threw it across the room. I asked for help in the shower and no one came to me. My baby was taken to neonatal care for IV antibiotics at 12am last fed at 1130pm and didn’t bring him back till 7am. The midwife said when was the last time you fed him and I explained and she said he will be staving. As this point I flipped. My son is named Oliver-James but they kept writing Oliver on medical files and I explained his first name is double barrels and I would appreciate you calling him by his name they couldn’t care less. Absolute disgrace of a hospital

I’ve had bad experiences here before and I’m due to give birth again there and in all honesty I’m dreading it 🙈
