You can also even wear a mask as well
Not recommended but I have had to do it due to my partner forgetting and having a very fussy cat. I wore a face mask and washed my hands straight after
If they’re only indoor you’re fine. The risk of them actually having toxoplasmosis goes down exponentially if they don’t go outdoors.
i just wore a mask 🤷♀️ stood farther away from the box. what @Cat said as well! it isn’t super high risk. i have my litter in the basement so any time i go down for anything i scoop it. if i see it, i scoop so it doesn’t soak and so it doesn’t get backed up. i have two large breed cats who potty a lot.
With indoor cats you're fine, the risk is basically nonexistent. Outdoor is much more dangerous. But you gotta do what you gotta do, wear gloves and a mask and wash your hands really well afterwards. Litter aggravates my partner's allergies really badly so I changed the litterboxes all through both my pregnancies just fine
I'm case this helps! https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/toxoplasmosis/gen_info/pregnant.html#child
I changed mine when I was pregnant, only because my fiance is allergic. But my daughter was just fine, I mean it stinks more because of your sense of smell. I mean I have 2 cats that pee alot so it always stinks lmao
My cats are indoor cats. I clean the litter box every day. Just wear gloves and a mask! Open the window for ventilation. You should be good 👍🏽 I also choose for shower time to be immediately after cat litter cleaning… so I can get a full cleanse after.
As long as you're sure it only eats the food you give it and no mice, for example, then you should be fine to wear a mask and gloves and wash after. Toxoplasmosis can infect baby but won't show signs of it until years later according to something I read just a couple days ago. We just got a couple of kittens from a farmer and they could easily have had it when we got them 🙃 glad I'm not pregnant! I just hope my toddler doesn't get it if they did have it.
@Ava this is me personally in my experience i felt bad abt asking like i was bothering him he always told me not to do it but i felt really bad reminding him
@Ava I’m constantly reminding him and he’s constantly putting it off. And my cats litter box is like bad bc he keeps forgetting! I feel bad for my cats! Lol
Are they indoor cats?
@Julie yes!
@Courtney🦋 well, a few things. 1) from what I’ve read, the risk is low when they’re indoor only bc toxoplasmosis comes from the cats eating critters like mice and birds. 2) we used to have an automatic litter box. It’s expensive and still needs to be changed frequently with 3 cats but you don’t need to do any scooping. You just change the tray once a week. 3) can bf set an alarm on his phone? Or can you just explain to him that you feel like he’s putting you in a position that makes you feel like a nag when you’re really not asking very much and it’s for the health of his child

I will talk to your OBGYN office about this but I have seen many women say you can do it as long as you wear disposable gloves while doing it as well as a mask. Also, I don't know if you do this but if it helps any I know it's recommended that for every cat a person has the need to have a extra litter box. So ideally if you have 3 cats you should have 4 litter boxes.
I’d recommend cleaning it with gloves and a mask as soon as possible or let your partner do it so that you’re not breathing in too much ammonia, dust, and chemicals which is a more common risk than toxoplasmosis/parasites. Wash hands after just in case and you’re good!!
Its not recommended but if you do just wear disposable gloves & wash your hand after, with warm water & soap 👍🏻
