Yes my baby screamed for hours so gave her the original formula and she settled again . Every time we tried it it made her ill, she's now almost 6m and tolerating the regular formula ok now I have 2 other children with CMPA and lactose intolerance
My little boy had this prescribed by the hospital, he absolutely hated it. Made him worse, screamed 24/7. They also told me to stick it out for two weeks. When I phoned my doctors because his symptoms weren’t any better the doctor said if its a cows milk allergy you will notice a difference pretty much within 24 hours but certainly by day 4. I took him back to the doctors and turns out he had reflux not a cows milk allergy. What are your his symptoms? Xxxxx
@Keeley thank you I will try it out for at least 4/5 days 2 weeks seems too long if they don’t I like it, I feel like I’ll be starving my child if they don’t drink it
@Rima since he was 2 weeks old he has had really severe colic he would cry all day and all night, I tried multiple things including aptamil comfort milk (still drinks this now) and nothing would calm it, I went to the Gp multiple times but nothing was done, they kept saying as as long as he is putting on weight he is fine, he is still crying during the day, he seems to be in pain and won’t feed properly while he’s awake, he will only drink 5oz in his sleep and when awake only take 2-3oz if I’m lucky, he will scream half way through his feeds and will refuse to feed more after that, he arches his back and kicks his legs when he cries like he is in pain, he has a rash that comes and goes on his face, and takes out milk after some feeds, he has hiccups a lot and gas, the Gp doesn’t know what’s wrong and suggested we try alt milk, I asked if there was any kind of test to do to check for allergies and she said no
@Ruby Collier lots of hiccups, arches back and kicks legs while screaming, won’t feed while awake, rash that comes on goes, lots of gas, takes out milk (not after every feed), I’m going to try for a few days and go back to the Gp if it doesn’t help, I’m not convinced it’s a milk allergy but I am exhausted physical and mentally that I will give it ago just in case
@Naasira I feel you mamma. I was in hospital for 3 weeks after my labour and when I came out to my son he was screaming 24/7 for two weeks straight, I went to the doctor, a&e and then back to the doctor because I was exhausted physically and mentally over it. I thought what the hell have I done having a baby???? First doctor said growth spurt, a&e said cows milk allergy and to stick with it for two weeks but after 4 days I called my doctor again and spoke to someone different who said you would notice a difference in symptoms after 24 hours they should calm down. He checked him over and said it’s 100%% reflux and prescribed infant gavsicon and I haven’t heard him cry since. He is an absolute dream baby!!!! His symptoms were, hiccups, arching back, crying which got worse when I laid him on his back, loads of gas, sick which got worse with the cows milk formula because it was more watery. And sometimes he had a rash but not really on his face. Only body. Fingers crossed for you xx
@Ruby Collier thank you this sounds just like my baby, I cannot imagine him not crying, even when he’s asleep I hear him lol I will give it ago for a few days and see how he gets on xx
Does anyone know if I can keep the milk at room temperature for 2 hours or does it need to be discarded straight away if not used? Xx
@Naasira I think it’s one hour now xx
@Rima I believe he has started teething too, he does a poo everyday it’s usually dark green if he does more than one a day the second is usually mustard yellow and runny, the screams he lets out and the way he moves his body tells me he is in pain or discomfort I just wish I knew what it was, I feel so helpless at times and all everyone says is ‘it will pass’ it’s been a couple of months and it hasn’t passed lol
My little girl wouldn’t drink much either didn’t really like it. I got them to try her on alfamino and she’s been on that for months now had a million times better it’s all what your baby likes. Weirdly the one she’s on tastes bad yes I tasted it yet she will drink and entire bottle I tried the althera it also tasted bad but had a different texture so might be that too
I forgot to mention my daughter also has reflux and she also had colic so it could be a mix of things. If you wanna talk to someone who’s went through the entire stages for past around 8 months I’m here
Thank you everyone!! I feel much better and know how long to continue this milk before we try something else, I guess it’s just trial and error as the LO can’t tell me what’s wrong ❤️
Hi naasira, this thread came up when I searched cmpa, how did you get on? My little one has all these symptoms too and is currently 4.5months, she is breastfed and I’ve cut out diary but looking to give her this formula for a night feed
My little girl was on SMA Althera because of a cows milk allergy. She was prescribed it when she was roughly the same age as your little one. We had a trial of it for 2 weeks aswell to see if her symptoms worsened or got better with the Althera milk. The first couple of days of trialing it she still had the same symptoms of the cows milk allergy. We stuck it out for the 2 weeks and by the end of it she took well to the milk and we carried on using it until I weaned her off it after she reached 1 year old. My advice will be to stick it out a little longer and if your little one is still showing symptoms in a couple days time then to reach out to the gp again to see if they can trial you on a different hypoallergenic milk xx
