Maternity Pay

Hey NHS mums! I wondered if anyone had come across a decent mat pay calculator? I’ve been in touch with HR (because our Payroll aren’t contactable lol) and they’ve given me some guidance about forward planning. We remortgage the month before baby is due (not planned) so really need to make an educated guess of what I’ll be bringing home. They will offer a breakdown once I’ve applied for my mat pay. I’ve calculated my own prediction but obviously do not work in this field so it may not be accurate. Have copied the email response below incase it helps anyone else. I know I’ve been stressing for months and although trust policies may differ, I hope it helps other stressed mums to be. (Band 7 - 30 hours per week)

if you work for southern health they have one on their intranet :)

I’m a band 7 on 29.5 hours. Spread my mat pay over 9 months. Happy to send you my forecast if it helps

Just FYI if you split it evenly your first 3 months are a higher pay, this is my first month with a much lower pay and payroll said month 4 onward will be the same amount

I couldn’t get a breakdown until 4 weeks before my Mat leave started. I’m bottom band 7 in Wales with a weekend a month, 37.5 hours, taking as per policy. Happy to share my breakdown with you if it may help.

Thank you so much everyone! If people are happy to share their breakdowns that would be amazing please. I’m 30 hours B7 (1-1.5 weekends a month) with outer London weighting. Annoying to hear that even if you ask for split they still pay you more at the beginning 🤦‍♀️ lol!

@Emma i think the more at the start is because they aren’t allowed to split statutory evenly and the first 6 weeks is 90% of your pay worth of stat. I’ll private message you my breakdown x

I split mine evenly over 12 months and the first 2 or 3 months were actually less because SMP wasn’t included in those payments. So just be aware of that. At the time of my mat leave (last year) I was bottom of B7 on inner London weighting and 37.5 hours per week. I got on average £1400 a month. This was before the pay increase though. My payroll gave me my breakdown the day I went on mat leave 🤪

I never found a good calculator that was very accurate most completely under estimated mine. I got my projection 3 days after baby was born.

@Lucy Hi, would you mind sharing your breakdown with me please 😊
