It stops you as you'll be earning under the threshold for the year to meet repayments and I don't think you need to tell them as they work with the HMRC to recover payments and will see you're in smp. I think how it works if you're repaying your loan they calculate based on your expected wages you'll be over the threshold to repay and then when they go to recover the next payment they'll see the smp and make the adjustments.
@Sam is this just student finance or tax you've paid too?
If you're earning under the threshold then you won't pay. My payments continued as my company paid really good enhanced maternity pay.
@Sam I haven't thought of that, that's brilliant! I went on Mat leave end of April, so paid something first couple of months, this just made my day 🎉
It stopped as earning under threshold xx
Mine stopped automatically they used to be taken from my wages but now that im on just smp its not on my deductions anymore xx
I haven’t got to this point yet, but I believe it should just stop. It goes up on its own when I get paid more from overtime, so I figure it’ll go down in the same way when my pay drops.
