Torticollis (head tilting)

Does anyone know of any baby airplane pillows I can buy on Amazon or wherever? Or another way to help get baby’s head up straight and not tilting to one side? We’re guilty of only ever feeding on our favored side and not enough tummy time and always holding on one side; his head is always tilted to the right recently. I have scoliosis as does my dad so I’m getting a little anxious about this!

Our baby had a mild tilt. We went to physical therapy. They stress doing tummy time and directing their attention to non favored side. She also said you can hold them at like a 45 degree angle with the non favored side facing the ceiling and they will instinctively compensate to lean upright. Play with them on that side to get them to turn and work those muscles.

My daughter had torticollis. We purchased the perfect noggin to sleep in. Its almost Completely healed her head flatness.

I think you’re supposed to go to physical therapy. You need strategies to strengthen the weak side of the neck and loosen the tight side. It’s not just about pulling the head upright with a pillow. We overcame our daughter’s torticollis by continually getting her to look in her weak direction and eventually she equalized.

Baby needs PT to loosen up the muscle tightness on that one side that is pulling the neck! I would do a few sessions and then just take that knowledge with you home and practice at home. The exercises will be much better than any sort of brace or pillow which i don’t think are recommended 😊 may also need a helmet as they may develop a flat spot from having a preferred spot to sleep on from the neck muscle tightness. Obviously you didn’t do anything to cause this, just how they were positioned in the womb! ❤️❤️ good luck!!

Also come on with those socks!!!

PT and/or baby chiro (very different than adult chiro). Also more floor time and much less time upright until the neck is stronger on both sides, gravity is working against you here.

Thanks everyone! 🥹🥰 Yes, I should I have mentioned our doctor is setting us up with a pt near where we’re moving to. So we’re all set there! We’re going to work on more tummy time and look into the rest of your great suggestions!

@Kelly lol Marshall’s! Came in a two pack, other ones say I ❤️ mommy 🥰

I’m a PT. It’s due to the sternocliedomastoid muscle being tight on the right. Try gentle massage by running your hand with some baby oil from his right middle collarbone to his right ear for 5 minutes. Then stretch the muscle by gently tilting the head to the left and rotating his head to the right 2-3 times with at least a 20-30 sec hold. 2-3x/day. Seeing a PT to show you how and how much pressure to use is helpful. It resolves really well and to my knowledge has no impact on scoliosis unless left untreated.
