Porridge

For those of you who feed baby porridge…which one do you use? Baby is 6.5 months and have been using ready brek but today decided to freak out over sugar and salt content…

I use Kendamil. We live the berry and apple flavours ❤️

Same with the Kendamil, we love the Banana one and I mix in nut butter sometimes to introduce him to the allergens. He absolutely loves it

We just use the same porridge oats we have ourselves. I used to blitz them with a stick blender when he was first weaning so they were more of a powder (similar texture to the baby porridge you can get), but now he’s bigger I just leave them whole instead ☺️

I always just used normal plain porridge oats (you can blend them to make them a ready brek texture if you want, but I never bothered). I don’t think the branded ready brek has any added salt/sugar though so I wouldn’t worry if you’re using that

I use ready brek - mainly because of the fact it’s fortified with iron/vitamins whereas my normal porridge oats aren’t unfortunately. There’s no added sugar/ salt though. Are you sure you’re not looking at the nutritional info for a 30g serving being made with milk rather than the nutritional info for the ready brek itself? All the added salt/sugar comes from the milk basically

Just normal oats. It's cheaper and there's no sugar

There is no sugar or salt in a 30g serving of ready brek? That’s before any milk is added.

@Mel i add half baby spoon of coconut oil into it to boost nutrients and calories. Adds sweetness also. Nut butter, thats a good idea. Have to try that.

Simply porridge oats from Lidl. Nothing fancy! You can grind them up finer to start with if baby isn’t used to thicker texture yet

My LO might have a cows milk allergy so I use Organix or Cow & Gate and add breastmilk

Just standard jumbo oats. You can blitz these if you feel they are too big for baby to manage

I use the Tesco own brand ready brek :) also fortified and less than 1% sugar/salt for 30g serving when LO is having 10g currently.

Blitz ordinary oats, much cheaper and healthier for baby.

Just normal porridge oats. Careful with some of the branded stuff it has a lot of extra sugar

Baby gourmet organic. It has different texture levels as well.

Thanks all, super helpful - was getting confused with the milk being the source of the sugar and salt. Might just try blitzing normal oats though, cheaper!
