Pregnancy Care at Kaiser SF on Geary

Hey mommas! I just scheduled my first in person prenatal appointment through Kaiser on Geary. I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant and due in December. My insurance coverage is through Kaiser, but I just wanted to ask around and see if anyone else has gone through their pregnancies at this facility. Any pros, cons, tips? Just excited and nervous! Would love to hear feedback on your experiences!

Congrats! I gave birth at a different Kaiser but the organization as a whole has been great.

I got most of my prenatal care at Kaiser Mission Bay but delivered at Geary. I thought it was great care ❤️

I went to Kaiser on Geary and had a great experience and when you give birth to your little one they give you a complimentary diaper bag

Got my prenatal care from Jenna Lewis, NP and she was a dream to work with! My birth experience was a challenge (not Kaiser’s fault) but for someone like me who had an unexpected induction and emergency c-section I think they cared for me very well. It’s luck of the draw for who you get as your birth team and postpartum care team though!

Congratulations on your new addition to your family. I wish you no more than anticipation of abundance joy with your baby! My prenatal journey with Kaiser began at 4 weeks! (Now, he is 4 years old) with Kaiser. Had given birth at the nesrby kaiser hospital, down on Geary. Adjacent there as well! : From my experience: i had a nurse practitioner (based on the appointment time, I was available to make because of work.) Only met my prenatal physician, once after birth. My prenatal care and journey was awesome and they answered all my questions with care and mindfulness. I loved it.. I would have stayed with kaiser if we didn't swap jobs! Let me know if you run into any names I may know: my NP was Florence Zink! And physician was Dr. L Barres. THEY are awesome. Let me know if you have any other questions. 🫂 🤗

Yeah, and they gifted us a handmade crochet newborn beanie and a newborn nosies that read, "I was born at Kaiser, San Francisco" such adorable newborn diaper bag. Also, if you're also covered by kaiser. They have prenatal classes for free! 😀 And some if you wanted to take, with a small fee! 😀

Overall my experience as the pregnant person was great. My care team was super knowledgeable and really emphatic with everything. My labor and birth experience was especially great. I honestly couldn’t ask for a better team. However, I noticed that they were not particularly great (and at times openly hostile) to the support partners. My husband was constantly treated as an intrusion and a nuisance at every appointment. This wasn’t a unique experience either. We saw at every appointment at least one husband/partner that was there to be with their partner but was actively excluded from the appointment ( there was one case where a husband was left waiting in the waiting room area for over an hour -he was supposed to join the appointment according to him- but they never came to get him). Post-partum was also pretty bad for my husband. He wasn’t allowed to get water (I had to request water for myself and he could drink it), not allowed pillows or blankets, never addressed him etc.

Hi, congratulations! No experience to report yet but I am 7 weeks pregnant and will also be giving birth at Kaiser SF! Grateful to see others’ comments ☺️

@Mary I'm sorry, your kaiser experience wasn't awesome. This is possibly just making sure: Mommy is priority and her voice is being heard. I remember, they would ask to answer a 2 week emotion status card. (Regarding relationship or partnership) Just to make sure mommy's feeling is heard and seen. Of my hub was there and the doctor asked me a question: my hormone may take over and say somethin imcorrect. Like mommy brain fog. My hub would correct me. (It gets annoyed and I would 🙄. I think next visit, I'm letting him wait outside. ( My hub would try to attend most appointments, only if I mentioned I would like him to join us.) Hope this does deter your further prenatal with Kaiser. (As I adore how convienent: they have most of all their specialize offices in the same building.

@Mary sorry to hear about your husband’s experience! My husband went to all of my prenatal appointments and was taken seriously as a part of it. Maybe that was based on my practitioner (Jenna Lewis) because she respected my husband and never made him feel like any of his questions were dumb. And she always addressed him by name too so she was great and made all the difference in the experience 🙏🏽

20 weeks along here! I go to Kaiser in Daly City but will give birth at Geary! They give great care so far!

Hi! I had all my prenatal appts at Kaiser in Richmond but gave birth at the Geary location. My L&B team was amazing!!! But unfortunately, didn’t have the bet experience with the postpartum team. The nurses were so loud outside of the rooms, they weren’t as nice as my L&B team were with me. It just depends on who you get. I hope you have a better experience though!

I had both of my daughters at Kaiser SF and had a good experience! Their OBs are amazing.
