How long did it take for your little ones to settle with a new milk alternative formula?

Hello! So my 2 month old has a milk allergy (rash on face & body, liquid poo's, reflux and very unsettled) so GP at our 8 week check has switched her to SMA Althera. A lot of her symptoms have settled e.g. no rash anymore, reflux seems better and overall a lot more settled. Which is great! However, she now will have a poo pretty much every time she has a bottle and even though they aren't loose poos like before, they are offensive smelling and so frequent . She also seems so much more hungrier after a feed, frantically has her hand in her mouth after a bottle and now waking again for a feed during the night. I've upped her milk from 5oz to now 6oz, but she still sometimes seems hungry even after 6oz. How long did it take for your little ones stomach to get used to the formula change? Has anyone else had to increase their formula oz's too?

So it really varies from baby to baby Some settle quickly others up to 6 weeks and if after 6 weeks you still see symptoms then it's time to move onto an amino acid formula I don't think the smell of the poos are anything to worry about as that is very common but maybe depending on the frequency I think its due to the milks being so thin that some babies are hungrier on them plus it's been really hot the last few days so could that possibly be contributing?

I am having this problem as well . Some of his symptoms have reduced but still have mucus in poo and white bits . Thankfully it is not as loose (watery) My little one is also so offensive too. He is feeding every 1/1 and 30 minutes 😴even at night ! Thankfully he is not being rejectile sick anymore since starting this formula and does not have a rash . His skin still cracks and gets really dry on his forehead etc but use baby aveno and stops it cracking . I agreed I wanted to try give him 6 weeks as don’t really want him going on amino acid formula . Gp just said they will monitor and if no improvements or gets worse then he will need to change . Hopefully not . His reflux and gas is still bad . They pescribed infant gaviscon but he will not drink his milk with it in x

Hands in mouth isn’t always a sign of baby being hungry. It could be that she’s just exploring and finding her hands so she’s interested in them. It can take up to around 2 weeks to get used to the milk x

@Chantelle Smith How long have you been on the different formula too? Are you on SMA athera too? We still have the very dry forehead and eyebrows too. It's a bit of a wait and see game isn't it 😐.

@Julia yeah I know it could be her exploring, but this is definitely a hungry cue! It's like an unsettled frantic hand sucking, moving her head looking for the bottle. She stops doing it when she has another oz.

I have been on milk for just over two weeks the dr wanted to prescribed another one before that but out of stock nationwide at moment so hope to try that next if I have to change xx

We noticed some change after a few days but took a good month plus to see an overall improvement. Skin and diapers took the longest. It’s been two months now since the change and his reflux is now starting to improve

My twins are on sma alfermino and carobel to thicken it
