Credit cards

Random, nonbaby related post! We really struggled during my maternity leave financially, I was only on statutory mat pay and our mortgage practically doubled. I’ve been putting things on credit cards for baby but I’ve never had so much on my card. It’s making me so anxious that I’ve got so much (£4K) on a credit card 😭

But you have a job to return to? If so that’s great. I had to leave mine when pregnant. It’s a moment in time. Switch it to 0% if you can and just split the amount be how many months the 0% runs for.

Agree with the above- get a 0% deal and pay minimum as standard. Then, if you’ve got any spare at the end of the month pay extra. But when you’re searching for a deal, make sure minimum payment is set to either 1% of balance (most won’t take less than £25 min payment though). Credit cards are good for your credit rating as long as they’re paid off regularly and you don’t miss a payment.

Sorry that should say 1% of balance OR min £25. And, if you’ve got more disposable income then you can whack a load off each month. It’s within your control x

I’m the same! I racked up about 3K of credit card debt and I’m going to swap mine to a Tesco one, they have a good offer on 29 months 0% so going to chip away monthly. My stat pay kicked in the same month our mortgage shot up as well🥲

@Lauren I’m just looking at transferring mine over to this one, am I reading it right that they charge 3.49% extra of your balance but then it’s 0% interest?

I had this after my 1st baby, but I’ve done much better this time round 😅 Remember you have 20 half days/10 full days that you can work during maternity leave to bring in extra income, that’s what I did as it’s on top of maternity leave so you don’t lose out on anything 😊

@Georgia yes I think so! I’m no expert by any means but that’s how I’ve took it 🤣
