Low income housing?

Hi. I’m trying to get into low income housing but I currently don’t know anything about it. I live in lenawee county and my situation isn’t ideal and need to get out asap. Obviously with my child. This probably doesn’t matter but he is recently diagnosed with autism. Also I can’t leave him with his dad because he can’t handle him. I’m not sure what to do…. To add, I don’t have time for a job so no income besides food benefits

Do you have help with your son? There are mother & child homes I know, which are types of rehabilitation (not restricted to substance use, could be from tough situations) homes that you can apply for because in the meantime the wait for low income HUD or section 8 is almost 5 years 😓

Housing Help of Lenawee has many resources as well.

Unfortunately, to change the situations you’re going to have to use time to find a job. Even target pays well, and that should afford you childcare too. There’s also jobs IN childcare where you can even bring your kids and get it free/discounted. YMCA is a great place to start The housing will be waitlisted, and WIC/SNAP EVT can help with food.

@🪶K, Connection Reception Lol I don’t know if you’re local, but Target and most retail stores most certainly cannot pay for housing expenses AND daycare. They only pay $15/hourly. Daycare around here is upwards of $2000/m. Daycare vouchers are so scarce. I do think OP could research employment at a childcare centre, but finding one that has means to safely and appropriately accommodate the autistic son’s needs would be a challenge.

Well to be quite clear… I can’t work. I’ve tried getting a starter job if you will and they told me I’m not worth hiring for 16 hours a week. My hours have to be specific because I have to take my child to therapy and all that it’s a Monday-Friday situation. Idk.

I have a few friends/ family with autistic children. Most of them have been able to get extra income to aid with things like rent. Caring for a child high on the scale is a full time job in itself.

Have you applied for disability?
