At a loss with bedtime

Hi everyone, my baby is 13 weeks old. He is in general a good night time sleeper. We were starting bedtime routine at 8pm and he would be asleep by 9pm but have recently realised that is a bit late as he doesn’t have great naps during the day so trying to maximise his night sleep. Unfortunately, earlier bedtimes are causing a “false start” and he’s only sleeping for an hour before becoming fussy etc :( I just don’t know what to do because I read it was due to him possibly being overtired but he woke up from his nap at 4.30pm and wouldn’t nap in between then and 7pm. I’m unsure how I’m ever gonna balance his last nap with his bedtime given they recommend a wake window of 2 hours before bed. Help pls with what you all do :(

I don’t know if this will help at all. But I read somewhere that they always say the longest wake window should be before bed but actually for some babies it works better if that’s the shortest wake window. And that was a game changer for me. I was constantly fighting to make that last wake window the longest and she was getting overtired etc. My little one now normally goes to bed between 6-7pm and normally has a nap between 4- 5.30ish (when she isn’t refusing her naps) and this works really well for her. Sometimes that last wake window is only 45mins to an hour long. I do normally have to feed her again around 10, but then she sleeps till about 4-5am x

My LO is 16 weeks and her shortest wake window is usually between her last nap and bedtime. Her bedtime is around 7:30-8:00pm and her last nap can finish 6 or even closer to 6:30 but if I try to push her bedtime, she gets very fussy and irritable. It could be that your LO will eventually go to bed earlier but just not yet. He is still young and sometimes bedtime routines are difficult before 4 months.

I read that 4 months is when you start bringing bedtime earlier because that’s when their circadian rhythms have matured. Then at 4 months you gradually bring it forwards until they’re going to bed at 7pm by 5 months old. Until then they’re expected to have a bedtime similar to yours. I would basically keep her downstairs with us until my bedtime and then take her up with me. A couple of times she got cranky by about 8pm so we just went to bed then. Now she’s 4 months and 1 week we’ve been working on it. It’s taking some trial and error through.

My little girl is 17 weeks today and a good sleeper. I’d say we were doing 8pm wind down and she’d be asleep by 9, but it is looking like it’s a bit earlier like @Suchi says you might find it’s hard to dictate a routine as things change. I tend to follow cues, and sometimes the last awake time is short but I take her away upstairs to calm down. Best to get a good lunchtime nap. Last night she did 8pm to 5.15am then a nap at 6.30 to 7.30am.

I'm very bad at thus then. I just started yesterday a new routine and I'm putting mine to bed at 22.45 lol is just that she still needs 5 bottles a day so mu last one will be st 2230. But she sleeps until 8am everyday here (I'm in Italy) because the room is very dark. And she naps during the day too even if she is doing it less and less
