One Month Sleeping Pattern

For anyone’s baby that was born in the beginning of July- how much do they sleep? I can’t gauge what’s normal or not. I know mine definitely has day/night confusion but I feel like he sleeps all the time regardless. He is alert for feeds, diaper changes and for a little bit when we try and get some sun time on a nice day. Otherwise it’s basically sleep with occasional looks. Just looking to compare to other babies. I feel like I don’t really get clear answers from my pediatrician.

my baby is 6 weeks old now, has slept max 5 hrs but it’s not every night he does he’s only done it like 2-3 times. my pediatrician said they can sleep for how old they are, meaning 4 weeks up to 4 hours without feed, 5 weeks 5 hours without feeding and so on. Hope this helps!

@Madison Hill sorry, for clarification, I don’t mean how long without a feed. I mean in general how long does the baby sleep day and night.

Honestly, my baby is all over the place. I’ll think he has a pattern then it changes. However he does sleep more in the daytime. Past couple nights he was up every hour. Just short naps throughout the night

Every single baby is very different but My 5 weeks old varies every day but mostly short naps during the day (1h ish), maybe one long 2 hour nap. The rest she is awake in between feedings and diaper changes. She started to engage more with us for about 10-20 mins awake and at night before bed time she has a longer wake window that can be up to an hour. She goes to bed somewhere in between 8:30-10 pm ish and has a 5-6 hour sleep stretch, from there wakes up every 2-3 hours to eat. Taking Cara babies 3 hour cycle helped me understand her sleep/wake windows. She talks about babies need to have every 3 hour (ish) feedings during daytime where your baby shouldn't go longer than 60-90 mins awake since the time the feeding starts to get longer sleep at night! Hope it helps.

It’s very normal for them to sleep a lot at this stage! Around 2-3 months they start to become much more alert and have longer wake windows! As long as baby is feeding well and isn’t lethargic during feeds it sounds like everything is normal!

My baby sleeps way less consistently during the day, maybe 1-2 hour naps now and then awake for about 1-2 hours in between but then at night he sleeps 3-4 hours between feedings. To help with daytime nighttime confusion during the day we just make sure we're still doing loud things around him, keeping lights on/blinds open, not swaddling for naps for the most part. Then at night we make sure it's quiet and dark and he's swaddled. That seems to help him!

@Athena same!

@Danielle thank you !! Yes he’s feeding alert and well

@Savanna we try keeping the lighting appropriate for the time of day but I’ll do the swaddles at night and not day. Thank you!

@Ashley you’re welcome! I remember this with my daughter, I think they go through a regression around 6 weeks? If you don’t have it download the “wonder weeks” app! It’ll help guide when your baby has leaps. Leaps can impact baby’s sleep and the app helps you understand the leaps they go through! It’s really helpful regarding regressions too

My lil guy born on July 1st takes 2/3 hours naps during the day, wakes up for a change and feed. Is awake for 2/3 hours at a time between naps and feeds. That’s where we do tummy times, walks, reading. Goes to bed between 10-11 pm and has been sleeping for now 5 hours stretches during the night now and then fully is up for the morning to do it all again.

@Danielle awesome, I’ll try the app!

According to the handout from my pediatrician at our one month appointment today: babies generally sleep between 14-16 hrs a day at this stage. Some need as few as 12 and some need closer to 18

My daughter is 3 weeks today. Her sleep pattern is very spotty, however has some definitive line. She could sleep up to 5 hrs straight in the night and overall she would sleep 16-17hrs a day. She will be active-sh during the day with almost 1-1.5hr feeding windows. My older one was different at her age. Feel like he was mostly eating & sleeping for entire 1st month Was researching this question on internet and found article saying that anything between 16 -20hrs is normal

Baby sleep alot but as long as everything is fine don't worry bout the baby sleeping as a they feed
