@Chloe do you leave it plugged in the whole night as well?
Wow! Following for the extra details x
Yeah. I keep it in all night. It's basically the same. I'll sometimes use olbas oil, or mix eucalyptus and menthol when they get a bit older as its stronger
I wouldn’t personally it’s a fire risk. They are meant to be thrown out each night after using.
Using anything other than the calpol refills is a huge fire risk as it has not been tested to cope with anything other than the calpol ones. Surely your home and child’s life is much more valuable than a few pounds for some refills. They are also not to be used all night as per instructions leave the plug in on for an hour or so before baby/child goes to bed. To be switched off with child in the room. We do this with the door closed and the vapour lasts in the room all night. Manufacturer instructions should always be followed!
@Danielle I never said that saving a few pounds is more valuable than my daughters life and never insinuated that. I just asked if anyone had used olbas oil on the pads and how their experience was as I had read it could be done and was curious. If it was something that was ok, I would have done it for tonight only as I can’t get anywhere to buy any refills today and wanted my little girl to be comfortable rather than suffer. I’m going to use olbas oil as that’s all I have but will use it either on a muslin near her cot or in a bowl of boiling water before she goes to bed (without us in the room). I have also followed the manufacturers instructions and thoroughly read the box and leaflet before I used the plug in as I’d never used it before. Nowhere does it say it can’t be used all night. In fact, it says it can be used up to 8 hours and also has a nightlight that can be used if needed without the pads.
The instructions say you get good use when plugged in for either 6 or 8 hours (can't remember off the top of my head) and just that they shouldn't remain plugged in for over 16 hours, and that they need to be unplugged for a few hours before using again. So overnight is fine 😊 Also, personally when it's gone over that 6/8 hour mark, I definitely can't smell it anymore, or certainly not as strong, in the room. So I'm shocked yours lasts all night after only being plugged in for an hour or so! That's great. Are you using the Calpol ones?
I didn’t mean for it to come across that way I was just stating in my option I haven’t even questioned the price and we just buy them as though they are a household item in with the shopping etc but I always go by what the manufacturer says and they say anything else is a fire risk. Maybe they have changed the instructions since I bought my first one a few years ago. Never reread them when repurchasing :) it just said that each pad lasts 6-8 hours so we change it after about a week of using it one hour each night, granted he has a small room but can definitely still smell it in the morning after only being on for an hour or so which is why we find it so good, both our 3 year old and 8 month old have them on their rooms :) nothing to say you can’t also use the olbas oil on a muslin too nearby the cot/bed. Asda do a really good vapour bubble bath as well we’ve always used that too before bed on extra snotty nights
@Danielle it’s ok, I didn’t take it too well- apologies for getting defensive it’s just been one of those days. Completely get anything else might be a fire risk, as that was also my first thought. That’s why I wanted to get true encounters of using it with something else rather than relying on a small thing I read somewhere online :) I’ll have a look at the vapour bubble bath, thank you!
I've done this for about a year or so with my 2 kids. Saves so much money basically works the same yeah. I put olbas oil on for an extra 2/3 days and then i will bin it. Cause it does dry out. But it defo prolongs the use
