Fragmin Injections

I've been taking these since 6 weeks pregnant and I'm unsure when I should stop them before labour begins.. I'm worried that I'll take the dose of fragmin and then a few hours later I'm in labour. I worry cause I know once you take the fragmin injection there is some stuff you can't have during your birth until 12 hours after the dose.. So I'm just worried and thinking of just stopping the injections until baby is here but that also comes with risks. Conflicted.

You should only be asking this to your consultant, but if you’ve been taking them throughout pregnancy I can almost guarantee that the answer will be not to stop taking your daily injections!! A lot of labours begin in the evening / night time so often advice is given to gradually take your injection earlier in the day (I now take mine in the morning) but also labour can happen any time. The advice is no epidural within 12 hours of taking Fragmin, but also remember that hospitals do deal with quick labours and emergencies

I've spoken to them and they just said when you have back pain or contractions which is fair enough but I've had back pain for days now and twinges here and there.. Just frustrating if i take it then a few hours later im in labour bleh..😑

I was told 12 hours before c section to stop taking fragmin but online I've read 24 hours before but if you're having a natural birth you aren't going to know when to stop. Speak to your midwife or consultant and see what they say

I’ve repeatedly asked the same questions. It’s definitely 12 hours from your last injection until you can have epidural/ spinal. The only solution they offered is induction so I know when I’m going to be in labour. Or alternative pain relief. I’m not happy with either of these and my first birth wasn’t even 12 hours start to finish 🤷‍♀️

@Sadie they offered me nothing just .. "You will know when to stop, trust me" Okaaay. 😒 x

@Laura that is pretty much what they said to me. I had no idea I was in labour last time until I was about 5cm and on my way to hospital. It’s giving me so much anxiety 😟 sorry I’ve got no more advice!

@Laura @Sadie I was told to stop 24hours before by my haematologist and consultant, I am on a treatment dosage of fragmin, I inject 0.6ml twice daily, so it’s not prevention dosage, so maybe that is different for the 12hrs? I am having my c-section tomorrow so I stopped my injection this morning at 7.30am to be 24h free of injecting. I am on afternoon list so it will be well over 24hours when I get epidural. Totally feel you, I was so worried this week after loosing my plug I checked for all signs and would have either had to go under GA or gas and air (no way!) I opted for a planned c section for this exact reason, because I didn’t want to have to go without epidural and I wanted to be in control.
